Have anyone called GE about streetlights before? « on: September 12, 2020, 02:22:18 PM » Author: Cole D.
One time a year or two ago, I called GE at the number on their Currents website because I wanted to know if they had any Powr/Brackets left. When I asked they said they don't sell to the public and asked if I could find something that would work at a home center. I wasn't sure if they knew what I meant, so I said they don't sell Powr/Brackets there, but they said they knew that but I'd have to find something from another brand.

I'm thinking eBay is still the best place to buy commercial or utility style lighting. Because some of these other places that are distributors don't like to deal with public. I guess they don't make enough money off the sale, for it to be worth the time. I know AEL don't sell to public either, and finding a distributor here is difficult.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Only way get these lights is going to electric supply house and have them check and order them for you.

It like asking ford manufacture to sell u a truck
And u need to go to car dealership to buy them

Same basic idea with electric supply houses.

GE has basically checked out of the whole lighting business.

The people on the phones at GE could care less about lighting. That entire part of their business has been outsourced to China.

I reckon if you called them in the 90's or earlier they would have been far more helpful.

I never called GE about streetlights but years ago when I was a teenager in the early 90s and was really into lighting I called them several times to find out where I could find certain lamps. Keep in mind that was before eBay and the internet.
They never sold directly to the public but they would always locate the lamp I asked about and an authorized dealer in my area that had them.
Back then they were always very polite, knowledgeable, and helpful.
While I couldn't buy lamps from them they would always send me all sorts of brouchers and catalogs for free.
Also since they located the suppliers for me I never had a problem getting what I wanted.
Sometimes I think life was a lot easier before the internet!
