Hello people of LG. I am asking about choosing a ballast for a project of mine. I was wondering if i could use a 100w psmh ballast to run a 100w mv (with the igniter removed from the circuit). I am asking this as i can nor find a h38 ballast new anywhere online and was curious if a metal hailed substitute would work. The whole point of this is to try and get my self equated with HID lighting and to (maybe) power up my old ken-rad 100w floods if i find an admedium socket. Also i may use it as a remote or Incorporated ballast for a project in the future. Thanks in advance for any info. 

IIRC a 100w PSMH ballast will run a MV lamp at around 110-120w which will overdrive a H38 lamp. I usually run the more common in Europe 125w mercury lamps on them. A 70w PSMH ballast will be the closest to a running a 100w mercury to the correct spec. I use 70w PSMH all the time to run 100w mercury lamps mainly since the correct 100w H38 is hard to find outside of eBay.

Ok that's really strange! I'm thinking it's probably homemade or something but for what I don't know. By the way, if when you get back to this project and can't find a ballast, I have a bunch of extra 70w metal halide ballasts and I could part with one or two.

Thanks for the offer, my family is in the process of moving and will be done in mid june ish depending on how corona turns out so i cant buy any new parts until then and when i move they will finally let me get some florescent fixtures adn other lighting stuff so i am exsided for that, i think that this  a small conversion kit to turn a lamp into a remote ballast lamp with one of those philips a23 100w bulbs.
