General Electric Daylight CFLs rule!! « on: January 04, 2009, 03:57:13 PM » Author: lightman64
Today i was at Target looking for that new GE cfl (they didn't have one yet, maybe later)when i saw some GE 6500K cfl. Normally I use 2700K bulbs but all you guys here at LG like 4100 and 6500K bulbs. So i took it upon myself to try one. I got a 15 watt GE 6500K Daylight CFL. There is such a difference! Colors look better and it really looks like daylight, even at night! This is one of the best CFLs i have ever gotten. I will probally be back to get more. Thanks for the recomindations.  But some Cons are that it is kind of an ''all or none factor''.   all the other lights in the room have to daylight too or it looks really bad.

o ok. i've never seen 4100K. i got 6500K- daylight. i think 4100K is cool white.

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

I have one of these GE 6500K 23w CFLs as well, its a nice color and good for clamshells (the only application I have for CFLs). My linear fluorescents in the garage are daylight deluxes which are much mellower than the 6500K triphosphor CFLs in my opinion.

Target has Soft white CFL, Cool white (*new*) CFL and Daylight CFL..... all GEs......I bought a daylight but i had a loose wire problem later, but i opened up the CFL and fixed it myself! The ballast actually looks decent to be honest...

I have a new favorite, N:Vision/Commercial Electric daylight. They are a less harsh blue and give off better color. Also they come in more varites.

I bought some daylight "twister" CFLs from the local hardware store.  6500k (daylight) is my favorite color.  I also like the 5000k color.  Actually, it depends on what I am lighting but I prefer daylight best.  I have many of my Miller 3 lamp fixtures lit with warm white, cool white and daylight together in the fixture.  it makes a really good light.

I prefer the daylight (5000K-6500K) lamps to use as a daylight supplement, i.e. when some natural light enters the room on a rainy or overcast day (or early morning/late afternoon) but is not enough to see by. They're also handy when I have to stay up late and keep myself awake to do a project or study and I often use them first thing in the morning to help me be more awake (I'm not a morning person). At night, usually I lower the colour temperature to 3000K and below (even HPS) and often then dim blue or purple (LED, blacklight or aquarium light) right before bedtime (the exception is clear mercury or cool green fluorescent which doesn't give me the daylight vibe for some reason). 5000K feels glaring and uncomfortable to me in late evening/night. 4100K I can deal with day or night, it's kind of in the middle of everything, but sometimes I get bored by it, thus I like a whole range of colour temps. BTW, I love the effect of daylight fluorescent as indirect general room lighting with halogen or 2700K-3500K fluorescent, LED or metal halide spot/accent lighting. Just like a sunny morning!
