Never expected to see a 175 watt version of this light.

It is HPS.
175w HPS doesn't exist... at least not anymore (it was a thing when HPS was first coming around).

It has a silver Nema tag, if not HPS it must be MH

I agree with it being MH, the red on the NEMA tags tend to fade over the years. The ones on the gumballs here have faded to a white background.
I guess it might have been a unlisted option that GE offered. GE had a lot of special order options and even fixtures that weren't listed in the catalogue but you could order if you knew the ordering code. The Crimefighters was one example, they were originally made for the City of Chicago but I believe others could have ordered them if you knew the ordering code as I've seen some in the wild in Canada.

I think it was a order option because there are more of these down the road and they all have no signs of red.

Early GE PSMH fixtures had white NEMA labels which can look silver. I'm thinking these might be older PSMH lights. can you try and get a good picture from underneath one?

Light is in the same to that may convert to LED. But if I see the crew (not likely though since it’s in Maine) I’ll see if I can get it.
