Older poles in your neighborhood? « on: December 04, 2019, 12:01:37 AM » Author: Cole D.
Are there older electrical poles near where you live? I notice the pole near our house has 1974 stamp on it. So it's somewhat older, plus it's older than our house, since house next door was older.

Some of the poles in my area were replaced with metal poles, during this year, and some also with newer wooden poles after hurricanes. After the Hurricane Irma, I had seen some poles, where the crossarms broke off of the rest of the pole and were hanging from the power lines. They replaced soon after though.

There is a pole in our yard with a 1982 inspection tag, the house was built in 1988 maybe the pole was powering the house that was there before they built ours.

An update, in 2021 early, a truck struck the power lines crossing the street toward our house. It caused the 1974 power pole outside to snap off and blew up the transformer on it. So that pole has been replaced now.

The other pole that was installed next door with HPS NEMA head on it, probably around 2009. That pole was removed summer of 2022, because my neighbor didn’t pay to use that NEMA head, making the pole redundant, and he was having a garage built, so pole was in the way.

I wish I was home when they removed the pole. As it was probably quite a sight to see them do, and I could’ve asked for the NEMA and arm maybe.

On the main road through my neighborhood, all of the power poles were replaced last year with new wooden ones, including some metal ones.

I think this really helped us have fewer damages from Hurricane Milton.

My neighborhood has many of the original 1960s power poles. Adelaide, South Australia has heaps of 50s and earlier Stobie poles which once held GEC 9425s and other SOX and Mercury lanterns. https://www.google.com/maps/@-34.8588398,138.5033993,3a,31.2y,58.51h,90.99t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1suDgutgHmu_1KWF7DH30rSA!2e0!5s20130401T000000!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D-0.9914409500846375%26panoid%3DuDgutgHmu_1KWF7DH30rSA%26yaw%3D58.512352958420024!7i13312!8i6656?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTExMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
