Yeah Supercells can definitely bring golf ball (and larger) sized hail. That situation you dealt with @CEB1993, could've
been much worse. You might've had a weaker Supercell above you. A stronger Supercell would drop a tornado, and throw down
grape fruit sized hail. Grape fruit sized hail would've easily done much more damage and harm.
That kind of hail, from what I know, is also a sign of a possible large tornado on the ground, heading that general direction.

@CEB1993: I watched both vid's as well.
Have seen my share of hailstorms, can remember one in particular where basically every house in the neighborhood needed the roof re-shingled. There have also been times when I've backed away from the windows due to hail when watching a storm.

Just wanted to make a small correction to this :lol: ... not 'would' , but 'could'. As not all supercells (even counting the stronger ones) will drop a tornado.

--------------
I have absolutely zero fear of ever being hit by a tornado at home.
Hail on the other hand, that is just a matter of time..same goes for strong winds.

I'm hopeing get the chance to out in the eastern part of the state this spring/summer & see some supercell storms (and a tornado)..so yeah basically storm chasing - but unlike the crazy YouTube guys I won't be getting close to the thing :lol:

--------------
I recently picked up a Weather radio - A Sangean CL-100 .. now I need to figure out how to use it (I did tune in a weather station & am listening to the weather report now)

Couldn't do without a weather radio. Had several close by tornadoes and had 30 minute warning from NOAA. Well worth the money!
That's a pretty good warning. Plenty of time to get to safety! (or if you storm chase, grab the camera & get on the storm)

I'm also on a weather-related website /discord right now (plus watching on radar). There's a tornado on the ground in TN

@Xmaslightguy, in most situations I've seen, the stronger the Supercell, the greater risk for tornado dropping. lol
The risk is also greater for stronger Supercells to produce the most violent, larger F5 tornadoes.
Same thing with hail... seems like the stronger Supercells bring about the bigger hail stones. Added to that: higher wind
gusts, most vivid lightning, and really really awesome base cloud structure.
Apparently Nashville did indeed get hit by a tornado from what I'm seeing online, with possible video of it occurring

Oh yeah before I forget, we're getting thunderstorms here as well, from what I can see on radar as I type this.
Nothing severe, but definitely some red showing. So there should be a little bit of lightning here and there.
Should be the first thunderstorm of the year for me, and also the first thunderstorm I've seen here at this
new apartment. Unlike my old apartment, there is SOOOO MUCH SPACE!!! NO trees or blockage preventing me from
seeing storms. Very awesome view, so I may snap pics and videos of severe+ storms as they approach in the future.

Yep it got hit, along wit multiple other towns...this was a long track tornado. And the same storm is still going, still dropping tornadoes as we speak :o (3 warnings out for it right now)

Very bad night down in TN

---------
Cool that your new apartment has more space & a great view :)

As for me ... its almost 1:30am .EEK. Gotta get to bed!

@GE101R, yep tornadoes and hail! That seems to be about golf ball sized, I would say. You doing alright
over there man? Did you get your cars, motorcycles, trucks or any other vehicles you have safely inside?
That hail WILL do damage to all of them.
@xmaslightguy, up over here it's 3:55am. Night shift has me staying up REAL easy. I'm wide awake.
And the storms here are "awake" as well it seems. Not severe here, but definitely pouring rain on my vaulted
living room ceiling. It's loud! Just got louder as I typed this.
First lightning strike occurred for me for 2020 about 30 minutes ago. Cloud to cloud lightning. Dead LED street
lamps right in front of my apartment literally helped that cloud to cloud lightning seem VERY, VERY BRIGHT!!
Man I miss seeing that. Just one lightning bolt, but still very awesome. I forgot how bright lightning can get.
Although the storm isn't severe and it isn't the heaviest rain, my floor in my loft was vibrating from the rain
hitting the ceiling. I couldn't imagine what it's like here when there's a severe thunderstorm with hail.

@GE101R:
That's some pretty  big hail .. I wouldn't want to be nailed by one of those :o
Hope you didn't get hit by any of the tornadoes.

@suzukir122:
Night shift seems like it'd be really tough to get used to :lol:
Lightning shows are always best at night! (but if you're trying to video, day/evening works better..)

----------------
There's a chance of more rough weather tonight (Texas having the highest risk, but along the all the golf coast states there is some chance)
Nothing much showing right now (and hopefully it stays that way)

----------------
I let that weather-radio I got run for those multiple hours while I was online last night (just to give it a good test).
One thing I like is it can be plugged in or ran on batteries. Maybe I'll take it in the car with me if I ever go storm chasing :lol: (could be a valuable tool).
I plan to give the manual a quick read to check out features & settings.

If I keep it plugged in & 'on', I'll most likely turn off the alarms, because I don't want the thing waking me in the middle of the night.

It was North of us. Those poor souls in Nashville wished they would have had a weather radio last night. What a terrible ordeal to wake up to a tornado tearing your house apart! Cpndo;ences to the families and friends of the injured and killed.
That would  be an absolutely horrible way to be awakened in the middle of the night! I'd rather hear the alert

The news only mentions Nashville, but there's also Cookeville, Mount Juliet, Lebanon (can't remember the other names I saw on Radar)

Here's two videos I could find of the Nashville tornado on YouTube so far. These videos have been compiled into one
video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XJlU6UH1Qw

Now... the second video with the weather man saying they were getting a direct hit from the tornado... false.
If it were a direct hit, both parties shown in that video would be killed, on camera... if the camera survived.
He also states that they were in safe distance away from the outside. False again. They were both standing
right next to a door... with a window. This being while a tornado *almost* hit them directly. That was
a very, very stupid move on both the weather man, and the camera guy.

@suzukir122:
I'll go check that one out.
Most of the videos I see on there are of the aftermath.
Cookeville deff looks like it got worse damage than Nashville.

I watched that one earlier today.
I agree not a direct hit.
It all depends, if that's a reinforced concrete building (and a window with bullet-proof glass - done for storm viewing, they'd be fine)

The person who made this vid had a good view... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xU1eYp7vY4o

It definitely didn't look like a direct hit at all. Things would've gotten much louder as well had
it been a direct hit. You could definitely hear the roar of the tornado though.
With the first video it's unfortunate that the camera guy didn't fix the audio to mono to prevent
audio from being in one ear only. Other than that, I think that was the better video. lol
@Xmaslightguy, yet again.... it's a small world.
That video you just linked to was, for some reason, uploaded by "Fox 2 News," from St.louis. I lived in St.louis
for about 9 years, and Fox 2 news was THE local news station I would turn to, whenever there was severe weather
in St.louis. St.louis has nothing to do with Nashville, so I've got no clue why that video was uploaded from Fox 2.
But yeah that was my #1 news station to turn to when I was a kid. All of my memorable storm moments involved them!

@GE101R, yep those Supercells with purples in the middle (depending on radar color) are the ones I'd watch out for
very closely. That right there can be very scary but also exciting for people like me. haha
Stay safe man... it's not even Spring yet, and there have already been deadly storms. That is crazy.
