Somewhere There Is Light(ning)
|
Back on May 20/21 we got a snowstorm here... Which ended up giving 8+ inches accumulation in my area. This was very wet heavy snow(typical in spring/fall), not the light powdery stuff you get in winter. Needless to say while not a 'violent' or 'severe' storm (it was actually gentle/mellow one). ... but that heavy-wet snow, combined with the fact the trees here are leafing-out, meant it all collected on the branches (which were not designed to handle such weight). Which resulted in lots of broken branches in the area, even a few entire trees down.
--- note: Getting snow here in May is perfectly normal.. Getting 8+ inches is not. (a couple inches or less in a storm would be normal)

We just got hit, hard, by a severe thunderstorm earlier today. Right when it was time for shift change... we lost power just a couple minutes before it was time to work. After 3 hours, we all got sent home. That storm was brutal. It got pitch black outside when the storm's Base Cloud arrived, and the thunder/lightning was never ending. That's how I knew it was about to get real. The Base Cloud was above our warehouse when the wind and rain started sweeping in from underneath of it. That's when we lost power, and that's when the lightning and thunder really started going. Now I'm home unexpectedly, on a work night. My paycheck is gonna suck.

Yeah @Wide-lite 1000, seems like you've got two waves heading towards you. One near Delaware Ohio, and the bigger one near Wapakoneta Ohio. That storm in Wapak is the one that seriously means business. They're claiming large hail and damaging winds up to 80 mph! I wonder if it'll weaken, since this is a warm front that's causing these storms to fire up... normally when this happens, storms maintain their strength rather well

The one in Delaware should go right past me to the northeast but the one in Wapak WILL get me !! Hopefully is weakens before that . Last time we had something like that come thru , my road was closed for 9 hrs. while the power company replaced 6 utility poles and cleaned up the mess ! When that one hit , I shined a flashlight out my front door and it looked like my house was on it's side under a waterfall !!

Hopefully this storm isn't as bad. Luckily my area will likely miss out on this additional severe weather. That storm that we just had was definitely brutal enough to record. I'm angry at myself for not getting it on video. ... It's a bit concerning how that storm heading towards Columbus is kinda starting to take on the shape of a boomerang... at least the front of it. Almost as if the storm is pushing itself towards Columbus. That is an indication of very strong winds.

Still 80 mph winds... man that is crazy. Another crazy thing about this storm is the amount of lightning I'm seeing with it. That's another indication of storm severity, as I found out today. The amount of lightning within the storm. I'm sure that will be entertaining/interesting once that hits Columbus.

The severe storm that passed yesterday actually messed up tonight as well... I'm unexpectedly off from work tonight -- still no power there. Makes me wonder what storm damage occurred to cause such a long time of no power to most of the warehouses over there.

Well , that "mess" got me all worried for nothing !! The storm cell pretty much fizzled out just outside of Columbus . I got a bunch of rain and saw a TON of lighting but that was it !
As for the power outages , AEP was saying they were turning off the power to various areas to aid in cleanup/repair so who knows !

It is the hottest air we’ve had in SC in about 10 years. We’re going through an intense heat wave. High humidity and temperatures at or above 100 a few days this week, and forecasted at least one day next week. This heatwave is affecting most of the Midwest from Chicago to St. Louis and most of the South, as far south as northern FL. The Northeast is going to dodge this heatwave for the most part. I can’t stand it when it’s this obnoxiously hot. Even in the shade, it’s warm and humid. My glasses fog up every time I exit my car or house My HVAC cycles and runs constantly, unable to keep up with the blazing heat outside. I wonder if any roads will buckle in my town this time… Thankfully, I work indoors in the air conditioning
