Would it be possible to use C or D batteries and 1.5-3V LED flashlight bulbs or would they be too dim? I can get the bulbs on eBay and use E10 base sockets and wire the lights up to a weatherproof battery pack with a CDS cell and just remove the batteries when I don't want them to turn on. Also is it possible to paint the LED lens different colors to simulate HPS, MV, etc or do I have to buy the colored bulbs? They're usually more expensive than clear bulbs.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.
