Found in that factory I like to go to, it was sitting to a giant propane tank looking thing that is called the "Triton II" or something along those lines...

It's part of a propane safety shut off valve, normally they are operated by a pilot light and when the pilot light goes out the valve shuts down the gas flow from the tank to stop any leaks or resulting explosions from a leak of propane gas into the area.  But your missing the rest of the valve body it's just the motor part..

yeah it looked like the copper thieves attacked that thing good... as this was just laying beside the propane tank thingy, there wasn't much else there except wire conduits and other small parts like bolts...

Yep the rest of the valve would be all brass and it's about $2/lb scrap value the rest of it is not worth salvage for the scrapers, and the valve would be few pounds, and they don't like carrying out other worthless metals, 20 lbs of brass is worth as much a ton of steel..

Would this thing be usable for anything else? or is it made to be in a specific system and nothing else and just pretty much scrap?

Most of them are just a simple electromagnet so it's just a coil of wire wrapped around the hole in the bobbin going through the unit, you could use them to magnetize screwdrivers so you don't drop screws when putting things together, I don't know how strong that one is, and is there any resistance between the wires ? Or you could tear it down save the copper, just stick it in a bucket in the garage and when you have enough visit the scrap yard and just toss the steel in the recycling bag. Because rare earth magnets aren't that expensive any more and they also magnetize screwdrivers and they are way less work and they don't need to be plugged in.. (I used to have something like that to magnetize my screwdrivers but now I have found ring magnets on Aliexpress and I just leave them on the screw driver and it's pretty rare to lose a screw, unless it's brass or plastic)

It reads about 215 ohms...
