U can spot them off as mercury vspor lamp have lower CRI as MH lamps  clear MV emit a blue-green  glow While MH have a whiter discharge as Salts mix into The arc tube.  to help improve the CRI. The.highest CRI of mercury lamp would be the dx coated lamps and still long shot away from MH

In Europe, most mercury streetlights are phosphored and not clear, and produces a white light. metal halide streetlights usually have brighter light than mercury vapor streetlights. Otherwise you can only distinguish mercury and metal halide streetlights by either lamp appearance or the light spectral content (Using a CD or DVD).
