ok durastars are maybe not ugly but just diffrent i wonder if they would look better with a drop refractor.
and maybe smooth out the housing and make it more elegent, and a diffrent choice of paint.

I quite like the utilitarian look... if the thing works, it dont matter how ugly it is... same goes for those LED fly swatters... although i still hate the things... primarily because it's an intense white light source and is glary.... i don't really care for MH at night either.... MV is fine since it's more "Defused" and the clear ones arent white.

Personally, I think the pattern on the reflectors on the durastar looks cool, if one turned up at my door I wouldn't turn it away something that looks odd can still by neat I just don't agree with the fiberglass! i'm itching just thinking about it!

14 years ago, back when everybody hated the Durastar. It was the biggest joke of a streetlight anyone had seen. Now they are becoming rarer and rarer by the day as they are getting replaced with LEDs, most of which make the Durastar look like an actual streetlight! Also, this was back when everybody hated HPS because it was replacing Mercury vapor. Oh how times have changed...

i get the "ugly" and it is but it reminds me of Euro lights as found in South Africa and Australia and I would take one if it showed up and would PAY for a NOS one as they don't last in service and it would be a UNIQUE item for a collection much like a AMC Pacer is now "cool"

LOL I was just thinking the other day about how everyone on LG used to slam the Durastar. Ugly LED lights seem to have ended that. Oh, and I always liked the AMC Pacer but never owned one. I've had a couple of AMC Gremlins tho.

When I first joined LG back in 2008, Durastars were the ugly duckling of the street lighting world. I see several of them where I'm currently at in Alabama. They have not gotten any better looking. Years of exposure have taken their toll on their lightweight construction. They used to just be ugly, but now they're ugly and really worn looking.
