Me and J-frog agreed to trade a fixture with one another. We used both fedex and UPS. Ok I got the fixture from jermiah intact. However I did get the refractor broken which was busted in shipping but still delivered to me none the less. He used fedex. I however used UPS to ship the "CAST ALUMINUM FIXTURE NOT INCLUDING THE REFRACTOR" to him. The box was well packed all around by me. UPS gets the package to his locations and files a damage claim. Packaged damaged in transit! What does UPS do. They are trying to say I did not pack the box well and are trying to stiff me for the bill on top of that they did not even drop the package off to j-frog for him to even look at what has been damaged. I call UPS demanded them to drop it off to the destination and yet it has arrived back to me!  I am supposed to pick up the damgaed "CAST ALIMUNUM FIXTURE"" tomorrow and get rippped for the large sum of money I paid to ship it to the destination! I will never use UPS again and they will be getting a lawyer threat by me tomorrow. I do not mess around. They are the ones responsible! How can you damage a cast aluminum fixture, Open the package Discard what they have broke without consent from me and then return it to the store I sent it out from and tell me to pick my junk up and oh sorry we are keeping the money! I AM OUTRAGED!  I feel very bad for j-frog on this matter. I never had a nightmare of an ordeal like this and I ask that noone on this forum ever USE UPS to ship anything. If anyone is curious, I will give you the tracking number to this order. It is sickening.! I think I am going DHL and USPS for everything.

Man, that's just awful. This is the one thing that worries me about the current state of shipping. Now that I'm back into my ages-old collection of lamps, streetlights and whatnot, I DID plan on selling some and buying others, but the risk of damage is very high. But worse, as we're seeing here, is the crap attitude of the major shippers. I hope you can get some sort of settlement, but you're in for a major headache. 

The thing is also, Would it not be considered a federal offense since the package was opened without my consent then they removed certain things from the package and discarded it? All being without my consent?  I dunno. Hope No one took offense to my above statement but this whole thing has got me tempered!

That's sad, I don't like UPS anyway, they are United Parcel Smashers!

Yeah, that's pretty bad, it would take alot of force to damage an item that's well packed.What are they doing to the packages?For the amount they charge,items should arrive in perfect condition.Luckily, a couple of fixtures that I received via UPS from the US to Canada arrived in good condition.

Right now the update is, The box is at the UPS store. I am not going to even look at it or touch it at this time. I am having the UPS store hold the box. They did not tell me what damaged parts they discarded. I sent a very intimidating email to ups about the whole nightmare.  They very quickly responded with a number I have to call on monday to get this all sorted out. I am in no way going to let this slide by me and rob me of the large amount of money I spent shipping it. On top of that j-frog does not even have his fixture. Well I am going to make sure he gets in one way or another damaged or not. I am sure the housing can not be broken.

I have shipped street lights via Fedex and NEVER had a problem. I packed very well also which is critically important for the contents to survive. I knew for years NOT to use United Parcel Smashers. I know how they operate, workers are pushed to the limit to be as fast as possible. That means throwing parcels to their destinations, even if the box says FRAGILE. If a worker carries such a box instead of throwing it, he/she carries the risk of being canned on the job. AVOID them!

There was one courier, PX, which had a reputation of losing two out of three parcels that were sent with them. As a part of the parastatal Spoornet, they had an incredibly efficient tracking system. Send parcel Monday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon it is confirmed lost, Wednesday morning you get paid out the insurance and get refunded the costs too. No wonder they closed up shop after 5 years of massive losses.

Update, I sent the headquarters a nasty email, They called back today And I had to call the UPS store and open a dispute. One way or another the package is getting delivered to j-frog. This may be a slow process I am not sure. One week is what they told me. I would have used fedex but the UPS store is right down the road from me. Trust me the extra distance to fedex is worth it for me from here on out. I will keep everyone informed on what unfolds.

Final update, The UPS issued me a full refund on shipping, However did not let me have the busted up fixture, The bulb was missing The ballast was missing and the houseing was crack and busted right on top where the bulb reflector was. No pictures were permitted. Probably due to them not wanting me to have evidence if I decided to take the to small claims. This is a experience I never want to go through again! J-frog has lost out and I cannot accept the fixture he sent me since he did not get his.

WOW! ok that's super messed up! you should tell them that if you can't have the fixture back, that you will file a claim for them NOT giving you the fixture back!

Yeah I know, It was totaled though. I seen it. The box was all torn up and the fixture was cracked and bent in so somthing very hard landed on it. I had my camera in hand and the ladies were like I am sorry you have to put that away. LOL, Over a light I said wow and left.

It is your package and they should let you do whatever you want with it including taking pictures of it. I am sticking to FedEx as well.
