Osram Sylvania Lamps Division Acquired « on: September 17, 2016, 08:08:11 PM » Author: Patrick
Back in January, Osram renamed it's lighting division to LEDVANCE, and announced plans to formally spin it off.  Now, it is being acquired by a Chinese consortium.  It sounds like not much should change over the next couple years, but I have to wonder what the fate will be for Osram lamp production in the U.S. and Europe long term.

BAH HUMBUG!  You don't see me get mad very often but this just pissed me off big time. I'm going to pull out all my pre-2016 Sylvania lamps and store em so I can use em up over the rest of my life instead of all at once.  Hopefully the procurement folks at my church HQ will switch over to GE now as they tend to prefer doing business with companies based in areas that the church has a presence in and where lamps are manufactured in country.  In Europe, they purchase from Philips & Osram but in north america, they have been a very long large and loyal customer of Sylvania products.   The only sucky part of GEs are their HPS and MH products.  The HPS tends to be too pinkish (much like Philips) and the MH has very crappy life and more prone to exploding at EoL vs Sylvania.

I need a beer.  Well root beer.  To heck with that I'm going to go get me some candy and comfort food while I sob over my old Sylvania GTE logo sign I got years ago from a now defunct electrical shop.

If you're interested, Osram has a table showing which products are going to LEDVANCE and which are sticking with OSRAM.
