So thats what my 10 or so Uni Form 320W lamps are. I wondered what sort of gear runs that

(And on a side note, would they work close enough on ordinary 250W Pulse Start ballast ?)

I won't be surprised the ballasts for these lamps are of the same characteristics as standard ballasts, only designed to operate in wider arc voltage range without overheating or so.
For the compatibility" Does anyone have some possibility to measure the ballast parameters (mainly the lamp current)?
320W is indeed a power level, which may be achieved both by using lower drop lamp on a 400W ballast, as well as higher arc voltage lamp on a 250W ballast (actually reaching the 320W as a real power transfer I would expect for a 250W HPS when close to the end of it's life on a rated ballast), but it may be as well really a ballast with current somewhere in the middle (so a special, proprietary ballast).

When these were first powered on, it took about 45-60 seconds from strike to reach full brightness.  I was impressed.  I'm sure it is a Venture proprietary deal, as the lamp came pre-installed in the luminaire.  I was just an evil little jerk and stole this some 16 years ago.  I have no idea what they replaced it with; if they had to special order another lamp.  What I wonder is what they relamp the fixture with now.  I will say that the fixture was way too light and small to contain a magnetic ballast.

You stole it?

Shooting them with bb guns, sometimes, they shot through the lamp, sometimes they missed.  In my neighborhood, just walking down the street, you would see bb and bullet holes in the acrylic lenses.
Yeah, I was probably 13-14 years old and a pretty bad kid.  I taught myself the error of my ways though.  I wasn't half as bad as the other neighborhood kids who would destroy the neighborhood streetlights though.  But I still don't justify today what I did as a teenager.

How did they destroy them?
