I've been told that to find a working 250W Mercury bucket fixture is pretty rare.. Today, I acquired one. It's a GE 201SA, pics to come later. Not sure what kind of ballast is in there, starting current is 8.1 amps. Pics to come soon. The ballast is pretty large and takes up most of the room in the fixture.

Sure! I can use it in my GE 175w Mercury bucket. I'm going to have to go buy a new 250w Mercury lamp for this one.

I'm curious as to why the line amps on this are 8.2a?
The amps on my 175w merc bucket are 5.1 My 100w HPS bucket are 3.2 and My 250w HPS cobrahead uses 2.6 amps max. Pretty big difference between the 250w Mercury and 250w HPS.

I'll have to wait until I acquire another one for that. I don't want to trade this particular one. I thought we were trading the bulbs for the photocells.

IIRC the bulb was for the PCs and the ballast would be for the bucket.

ooo...nice When I get a "real" NEMA bucket and the 250w merc ballast, I plan on doing this. By the way, Solanaceae, did you get the silverliner yet?

I will search around for more buckets. I have a contact who may be able to get another one.

Zarlog, are you just needing a NEMA head or do you have any specific specs. If you just need a head, I can get you one of those. Let me know what exactly you're looking for.

Zarlog: no, I don't think the assvance 250w ballast could take the heat, plus it's prolly way too big. I did it with a 175w CWA ballast (remote cap of course) and the ballast got pretty toasty since they are designed to be pushed against the fixture housing but it survived thankfully.

I've noticed that this 250 watt Mercury bucket does not have a capacitor in it. Should it? My 250w sodium cobrahead has one, and I've seen a 250w Mercury cobrahead with a capacitor, but for some reason, not the bucket. Anybody have any answers on why?

Normal NEMA heads don't have caps, due to the fact that the heat would damage them.

The first photo is a Type V lens The second photo is a Type III lens
After using both on this 250w Mercury bucket, I believe that the light is brighter and the distribution of the light is more even on the Type V than on the Type III. Only by a little, but still.
