My Riviera was the family car when I was growing up. When my dad passed on, I inherited it and took it out of storage and brought it over to my state. I was young, 22/23 years old and I loved the car, but I was not very well disciplined at the time. I was having a lot of fun with it. I started traffic light racing other vehicles which was very stupid and one night I raced a early to mid-90s mitsubishi eclipse turbo. The turbo got me off the line but when we hit it from a roll I was doing pretty good keeping up with the turbo and we got to be side by side as the speed went past 100 MPH. The next thing I know, I look down at the speedometer needle is past 120 MPH and we are approaching an intersection. I slammed on the brakes, but a big tank like that doesn't stop on a dime. I went sailing thru a red light at about 40 MPH and thankfully didn't T-Bone or kill anyone. It scared the heck out of me. A few weeks later I sold the car to the service advisor at my auto repair facility who said he wanted a classic like that and would take good care of it. I think at the time it was the right decision to make, but looking back, I wish I would have had more discipline and common sense. I would love to still have that car today. I might get me another someday.

If it's going to cost more to repair than replace, then time to get rid.

I have a Hyundai i20, but rarely drive it now, it’s funny how life works though? When your a kid you can’t wait to ride a bike, then when your 16 your fed up of bikes and look forward to your first moped!, then after a year of 50cc moped/motorcycle use your itching to start driving lessons for your first car, or you opt to take your motorcycle license for a life of 2 wheel freedom! Then something odd happens, (or happened to me at least), after 34 years of driving cars your so fed up of the cost of fuel, cost of road tax, cost of servicing, sitting in ridiculous traffic jams, de-icing the bloody things in winter and driving in general, you get your trusty old bike out from the dusty, cobweb shed of history and ditch the car for pedal power transport again! I let Jo have exclusive use of the car now, I only ever use it for the couple of long journeys a month I find myself doing, and forget the EV garbage!, their just rapid depreciation, heavy mobile fire bombs that I won’t ever entertain! We sell Teslas at work and their way over complicated and over engineered junk, with everything touch screen and other pointless systems that makes the stupid things ‘dance’ if you set them too! The good old bicycle has been around for hundreds of years, and will probably be here for much longer than EV crap!

Update: The Mercedes I posted about earlier in this thread got a cracked cylinder head, so we dumped it and got one of my favorite cars ever - the Lexus GX 460. Just got it today.

@ Rich - The problem with bicycles is you get wet. And they're not very practical for a 1200-mile round trip to see Photon to collect a load of lamps I don't like the push to EV either, especially as we only have on-street parking here and nowhere within half a mile to charge up. I often wish hydrogen fuel cell cars had taken off a bit more, we had a couple in the car club here in Aberdeen for a while, they were good; didn't take any longer to fill up than petrol/diesel and a good 250-300 mile range on them. Only drawback was the lack of refuelling points; apart from two in Aberdeen (one mainly for the buses) the next one south was Sheffield, so no way of doing a road trip in one

I’m currently borrowing a 2011 Toyota Camry XLE. It’s very comfortable and user-friendly and has some serious pick-up. It’s a really quick “sleeper” car Reason being, my Subaru is in the body shop after an unfortunate fender-bender a few weeks ago The body shop is dragging their feet getting it fixed and I thought it would be ready this week. The Camry is nice, but I really miss my car. My Subaru has a flat 6 “boxer” engine that’s quite fast and also gives a “sleeper” vibe, an ordinary looking sedan with some serious muscle when you floor it! My 4-wheel drive Subaru is arrow-straight when I floor it, while the front wheel drive Camry has some torque steer and will pull to either side when pushed too hard from a stop. My Subaru is definitely more tightly tuned and has more precise handling, while the Camry is designed to be a laid back and comfy motorway cruiser.

Ohhhh... haha... I just learned something new today. I did not know about the flat 6 engine. I've always known about the inlines, or the V's. I've even known about the flat 2's on certain motorcycles, etc... but have never known about the flat 6, or the flat 4. Apparently a lot of Porches also contain flat 6 engines, as I've found out on YouTube just now.

My father had a Citroen GS Club back in the 80's, which had a flat-4 aircooled engine. In fact I seem to remember he had two of them, one after the other, so he must have liked them..! They were very reliable, as I recall.

Yesterday i changed my old (14 years old) Fiesta LPG, 244.000km / 151.000 miles circa (i have doubt they were true as i bought used 8 years ago with 78.000km) to an used Kia Niro PHEV (50.000km with regular 15.000km checks).
At first, i missed my Fiesta, but it begun eating oil, lack of power (recentely i had to begun to shift from 5° to 4° gear in hightway), clutch issues, radio issues, etc.
Now, i'm learning how to drive an automatic transmission car and, as it allow regenerative braking slection on steering wheel, i'm applying my (little) truck experience with retarder to slow down without using brakes (and to recharge battery).
Despite it have only 8kWh accumulator, in EV mode, i spend half than LPG (per km) to commute to work.

I drive a 6th gen '93 Toyota Pickup with 201,000 miles.
Specs: - Automatic Transmission - 4WD Transfer Case - ~110HP Gasoline Motor - Medium bed - Tow hitch
It does not have: - Traction control - ABS - Airbags - Air conditioning
I like how everything in the cabin is connected mechanically to something.
