I've seen it happen many times.  The little plastic tab inside that holds the contacts breaks off.  Phone = brick
oh ok.  would have to be pretty rough with it to cause that.

Not really.  It's pretty tiny.  Try to plug it in misaligned and the plastic tab cracks, and the contacts no longer line up.  It's too bad it's proprietary, because the Lightning is much more durable.  I've seen many broken cords, but not one broken port.  With Micro USB, I've seen lots of both.  The LifeProof case my iPhone is in now has a port opening that's designed exactly around the original Apple supplied cable.  The down side is that only Apple cables can be used with that case (the plug grip is too bulky on aftermarkets).  The up side is that the tight fit protects the plug connection.  Any sort of side loading, which could break the tip off the cable, gets transferred from the plug grip the the case, and not to the plug tip and contacts.

Welp, due to money reasons I actually had to downgrade from my HTC One M8 to a Samsung Galaxy Ace Style.  No big deal though, at least I can call, text and then some.  At least I still have my M8 though for pictures and...well really anything but things that need a service plan. :P

(Sorry for the horrible photo, took it on another phone, only thing I have that I can use to take a pic easily :/)

That's too bad about not being able to use your HTC One.  My opinion of HTC used to not be very good, after my former roommate's experience, but they've improved over the years.  My nephew has a talent for destroying phones.  His first victim was an iPhone 3GS, and he has since destroyed various supposedly rugged smart phones, like the Samsung Rugby Pro.  The HTC One M8 held up for over a year without the benefit of an OtterBox/LifeProof or any other case for that matter.  It's eventual downfall was a broken micro USB contact, leaving it unable to be charged.  The replacement, a rugged Kyocera made it about 4 months before being destroyed.

Yeah HTC seems to make pretty solid One's, they hold up better then a lot of better smartphones from what I've seen.  I've almost never used this one without an OtterBox though, went about 3 months maybe in total of using a cheap $5 Dot View case, which was fun but I then somehow got a dent on the bottom on the phone above the USB port and (probably because it is a cheap knockoff case) 2 horribly scratched spots on the screen, but only noticeable when the screen gets dirty.  My Mom had an HTC Evo 4G (The original) and I accidentally dropped it in a store once, and it was in a hard plastic case, it ruptured the LCD and now there is a permanent dead spot right around where the space bar is if you had the keyboard up.  Glass was fine, but the LCD was not, still works though.

I got his One repaired.  The broken port prevented the battery from being charged.  Being left on the shelf for nearly a year with a dead battery permanently killed the battery, so it got a new charge port (actually port daughter board that contains the micro USB port and headphone port) and new battery.  Good as new!

I also got the SIM lock removed from my iPhone.

I'm upgrading to an iPhone 5??? via AT&T, still as a "GoPhone" prepaid plan, with 3gb data each month.  I needed something that could get on the Internet but was still the cheapest and most basic thing they had that was an Apple product LOL.  On the waiting list, my local AT&T store (Sitka, Alaska) didn't have the phone in stock but they will call me when they do.

If it weren't for the need for mobile Internet access, I would have kept my screen-doesn't-even-work-anymore-but-it-still-makes-and-recieves-calls flip phone indefinitely.

I take it you don't have internet where you live and need the mobile data?

It's been a couple months but I replaced my Nexus 5 with a LG G5. Wouldn't mind switching back to iPhone but it was quite a bit to get out of contract.

I have the G4 and I honestly really don't like it as much as I used too, on my 4th replacement already and this one is having problems too...

I had no intention of upgrading my personal phone, but after playing with my new work phone for a few days, I gave in and got myself an iPhone 6s.  Of course, mine isn't the 16 GB "fleet special" that my work one is.

My former phone (which died yesterday) was an ALACTEL DAWN cheap phone, 5MP camera, did the job, then a ballast fell off a shelf and squashed it lmfao, for anyone thats curious the offender is a 175W HX MV ballast lmao, i did not really use the phone for music, i refuse to do that since i can store way more on my MP3 player (3200 songs currently)... and i don't have to take the MP3 player out of my pocket to change songs, all i used the thing for was a camera, and the very rare phonecall, i use my computer for everything else (facebook, youtube, skype, games ect) so really i couldof done fine with a digital camera and a tracphone or something lol... but over the weekend i might be getting a new one... i'm hoping to get one with a better camera... like a way better camera..

I had a Samsung Galaxy S5 that has been beaten and dropped many times without cracking the screen however in the past 6 months it has had trouble reading the SIM card causing it to restart so yesterday I upgraded to an S7. The battery in the old S5 was getting old and wouldn't stay powered for 8 hours without needing recharged and that was with very light use.

I now have an ALACTEL idol, 13MP main camera, 8MP front end camera 1.9GHz CPU (which is all i need, i really only use it for calls and camera) a flashlight, which my old phone was lacking, and a decent battery, for only 100 bucks

and one flaw i have recently noticed... that may become an issue for me... i cannot tranfer files to my PC... because it requires a special driver and im running linux... and i cannot install windows because windows 10 refuses to install, i hate technology sometimes... and i hate companies who insist on "DRIVERS" my old alactel phone did not do this  >:(

i'll just go the oldschool route taking pictures then pulling the SD card and plugging it into PC
