Hello all:
I recently seen a pink MH lamp cycling, which I suspects that it is a probe-start MH lamp operating on an M59 ballast and I did
a two part video . For about 13:00 mins after extingushing, there was nothing, than a secs or so after pressing the rec button to stop recording the video, the lamp abruptly restruck from nothing (No glow, nor flashes or an aux discharge). The color of the light was similar to when the lamp cold starting.
In Eltam factory and in Leo-Beack high school, this wasn't the case. I've seen in Eltam, the Osram HQI 400W/N/SI which it had an aux arc after 4 mins from cycling the power, flashed once, then appeared for several mins and then appeared for 4 mins until the lamp restruck after 9 mins).
In Leo-Beack, the total length of the hot restrike of the probe-start MH lamps on the M59 autoregulator ballasts, was 5 mins, and there were blue aux arcs in them before the restrike.
However, in the said pink MH lamp (Which I think that it is a probe-start MH lamp), I don't seen any aux arc at all before the lamp restruck. The lamp simply hot restruck without an aux arc appearing.
I know that there is a bi-metal that short-circuits the starting probe, after the lamp warms up, and so prevent the voltage that required to build the aux arc, but usually it is released when the arctube still not ready to be restarted, so the aux arc appears.
Are there members (Mainly american members) here that owns probe-start MH lamps, and experienced an abrupt hot restriking of their lamps without an appearance of an auxiliary discharge between the main and the starting electrode at all before the hot restrike of their lamps (Hot restrike from a total darkness)?
