i'm been finding myself trying to encourage myself to upload pics but i have been losing interest and i'm more and more just enjoying my lights quietly. do i really have anymore usefulness here? life changes you know.

It is perfectly normal to have cycles in your interests. I do. Mine cycle through HID lighting, fluorescent lighting, locksmithing, photography, music among others. I rarely have the urge to upload lots of images, even if one of my hobbies is photography. Don't worry about it and let it run its course, and maybe one day you will find motivation here again.

thanks guys for the explanation! i have been focusing more and more on trying to build my career in electrical work and work on my social skills and other stuff. but i'll never go out of the lighting hobby personally, i am always buying lamps from ebay and local.

Hi guys, same happens to me. My posts are getting more and more rare here in the gallery but it does not mean like i would drop my hobby in Lamps and staff. Its beacue I got other things to do like beekeeping, girls, boat driving and others...
I'll be foreever  a lighing enthusiast, sometimes a little bit more and sometimes not...

Don't drop out! You seem to post more incandescent lamp photos than anyone and I love seeing them! If you don't have anything new to post, that's OK. But no need to drop out! I go through long stretches where I don't have any photos to post, don't really have any comments to post, but I don't drop out during those stretches. I don't always say much here, but I still enjoy looking at everything that others post here even if I don't comment on everything. Believe me, your contributions here are quite valued!

Hey man, you are not alone in there, I do feel same sometime want to drop out doing on here forum and doing focus myself quietly at home but that's only happens when I am under stress daily living but I always come back in a while when I have chance. I am pretty sure lot of people in here finds very enjoy checking your interesting pictures and I am too!     

     

been posting a lot less lately due to being very busy and ill.
not even looking actively for stuff either.but things will get caught up again and i will be finding more stuff.
no big hurry to do anything with stuff i found but have not had time to bring home as its in a safe place protected from further decay.
my winter "to do" list is rather long already!

For me, I haven't been on very much because I tend to be inactive with lighting during the summer..I find my lighting hobby is seasonal. Fall and winter are when I'm most active then it drops as spring and summer go by. Currently, I am feeling the urg to start collecting again as the cold weather is starting to return.

I find this site quite useful, It allows me to be able to share with others who are into the same hobby. Everyone around me (family, friends, girlfriend) all don't seem interested.


If you feel you want to work with lights quietly, go for it you will always be welcomed here nonetheless.

I agree with everybody above, you don't have to feel bad because you've been every active here and now want to spend your energy in other hobbies.
I have different centres of interest, and even in lighting sometimes I feel more interested in 1800's oil lighting, sometimes in mining lamps, sometimes in fluorescent lighting

It's definitely a normal and common thing. I myself have only been on once or twice a week this summer, whereas I use to be on every day. Likewise, I use to collect and enjoy vintage cell phones, then 4 or 5 years ago I fell out of it. Now over the past month I've had a sudden resurgence in the interest.

well one contributing factor is that there is so much garbage being uploaded on l-g, gol, etc. why would a pic showing some boring twisters bought from home cheapo get so many comments when others and i try to show pics of the good stuff that get ignored at least it seems to me? i feel unwelcome on l-g and other sites these days and it kinda makes me lose interest in uploading pics. BUT my personal interest in lighting has not waned and it will never go away, and i'm thankful for my great lighting friends too.

I just move on past any photos that don't interest me.  I know everyone's interests are different so I just look at the photos that interest me.

1. I personally have a limited knowledge on electric lighting compared to oil and gas lighting, so when I see your (or someone else's) rare items, I have nothing to add except "Wow", "Great", etc., which sounds naive to me so that I prefer not commenting the photo.

2. Yes, people comment stupid stuff and ignore interesting stuff. On Facebook my most liked photo is an old cup that I found in the Parisian "catacombs" beneath a military hospital where there are a lot of broken dishes. This photo was taken in a garage using a F40 ceiling fixture. But people like it! I also posted rare lamps and explained why there were rare, but nobody cared

3. Once I posted this photo on Facebook, with explanations. Nobody liked or commented. A few weeks later I deleted this photo and posted another version with very slight modifications (such as luminosity and contrast). More than 10 friends liked and commented: the photo wasn't better, but the date & time of posting were better!

4. I am 38 and when I was 15-18 I collected fluorescent tubes (as well as other sources of electric lighting: I had so many lamps in my bedroom that I don't understand how the plugs didn't catch fire!), then I stopped. I've been back into this kind of lighting for a few months: life cycles!

If you loose the interest, taking break is the best you could do, just keep the door open, so you can return if you change your mind and would like to return in the future...
