Is "Plantmax" just a re-badged Satco lamp? « on: January 10, 2013, 10:55:24 PM » Author: BlueHalide
Picked up an interesting lamp today, A "Plantmax" 250w Halide with an unusual color temp rating of 7200K. Got home and fired it up...the color temp looks similar to 5000K, in fact its quite close to my Venture 5500K lamp, only slightly greener. Now this lamp is physically identical to a Satco Metal Halide lamp, everything from the arc tube, frame, and base to the starting resistor. If these lamps were side by side there would be no way to tell them apart. Even the box it came in is exactly the same dimensions to the Satco lamp box. There is no mention of Satco on the Plantmax box, nor can I find any info on google. Is Plantmax just a re-branded Satco? Also the chemistry of the Plantmax lamp is peculiar in that it warms up like a normal sodium-scandium lamp, with the usual bright orange flashes during run-up. After the lamp is shut off you can see the usual bright yellow salts on the arc tube wall, but there was also a spot of pinkish-purple as well...would that be Indium?

If you have a means of taking the lamp spectrum, do this.
