I went to a local hardware store today (the one that this GE Compax and these 100W slimlites came from). I was looking at some products that were made in China, and I commented about it to a worker who was standing there. The worker said that not much was made in the U.S.A. except for Channellock and Klein tools. I said that Sylvania incandescent bulbs are made in St. Marys, PA, and he said incandescent bulbs haven't been made for a year and all the machinery has been detooled. I said that Sylvania was making halogens at their plants, and he said that "Halogens aren't incandescents, they are a type of H.I.D." I said halogens ARE incandescent, and he replied with "I've been in this business for 30 years; I'm not gonna argue" and he walked away.

I don't usually argue with people unless I know I'm right, and I am sure halogens are incandescent!

 Yep they are incadescent , It just one of those type of people who think he knows it "All"

Yep, some people are just stubborn and unwilling to admit it when they're wrong.  No sense arguing about it if it isn't something important. 

Understandably, it can get a bit confusing considering there are a number of very similar terms used to describe very different lamps (e.g., halogen (incandescent) vs. metal halide (HID), xenon (incandescent) vs. xenon (HID), high intensity discharge (arc) vs. high intensity lamp (incandescent)) .

Yes, I had a run-in with the local hardware store representative also. Also it was not about lighting, I brought in a old belt for a dirt devil vacuum cleaner and he insisted that they did not have it. I picked out the correct belt and brought it to the register and he said I hope that you don't think this new belt will replace your old belt… The sizes clearly different your old one is much larger. I said yes it has stretched over the years this is the correct belt I remember it last time being much smaller first. He said no it sould never stretch that much...i said no truly maybe im wrong buti want to try this one...he snapped and yelled something to the tune of "well I've been in this business for 400 years and guarantee you are wrong, you will be bringing it back tomorrow"… And then slammed it down on the counter gave me my change. The belt fits perfectly and the vacuum works well. Same guy sold my friend improper adhesive for his rubber roof causing it to leak throughout the winter, we had to research on the Internet the proper EPDM adhesive to use and repaired it successfully in the spring...after scraping off all the incorrect stuff… It's a shame that some people are so stubborn I don't think down of the guy but why be like that?  ohhh well :-/
