So supposedly tonight (March 31) from 8:30pm to 9:30pm (local time in your timezone) is "earth hour" ... the idea is to turn off your lights for one hour. :roll:

Maybe a good old MV floodlight or streetlight?
Maybe some nice VHO fluorescents?

I should put a 150w par-38 spot in the flag pole light (it faces up in the sky) instead of the 50w spot.The mercury vapor lamp post will stay on all night. At 8:30pm lights will be turned on as needed as usual I do not like being in my house in the dark, I like to see what I am doing.

Being green and participating in this event (its not for the amount of energy saved in that hour which is tiny, but for the awareness and spreading the message) is not wrong in any way. Its being green and stupid in the same time which poses a problem

Now if you picked this hour to showcase wasted energy with incandescents in protest for the ban i can understand this, but think of it - What others see is that you are against _earth hour_, they won;t even link your protest to bulb bans or other _specific_ activities. For them, the message they see in your incandescents is the same as if you would go racing your SUV and honking around the block

Besides, i do like the dark sky so totally not doing anything that destroys it

What is the point of earth hour???

'Earth hour' is some watermelon (derogatory term for ecocommie; meaning green outside and red to the core) thing where they sit in the dark, shun the things that make modern society possible and call for the destruction of same.  These same idiots would not last a day without any of the things they call for the elimination of.  Such lack of comprehension of reality is typical for them.
Being a guy who actually understands the realities of the world and who understands the limitations of the 'alternative technologies' that they are trying to replace real energy sources with, I have nothing but contempt for them.  At best, the are being willing dupes for one of the most evil ideologies in human history, namely socialism.  At worst, the are actively pushing same.
As such, I ran about 15kW of lights for human achievement hour.

I ended up running these 3:
* 175w MV floodlight
* 100w MH security light
* VHO fluorescent with 2x 110w 4' lamps
...all outside laying down, facing up! (coulda done many more normal fluorescents if i had so wished...)

I really didn't do anything special during earth hour, all my lights were on at night as usual. Earth hour is pointless.

There is difference between earth hour, or just cutting the power to your home

The 1st is voluntary. Its point is to promote responible use of electricity. This is the correct thing to do ALL OF THE TIME (ane not just 1 hour in a year), because most of the electricity comes from not renewable sources. This does not say "sit in the dark" or "use HF". it means "switch off lights that you dont need, when you dont need them"

The 2nd is what you can call communism as it is forced on you. But earth hour is NOT one of those things

It is propaganda for who sees propaganda in it. All it is meant to say is to save electricity, its really that simple

As somebody alredy wrote before, if you want to save electricity, you have to do so 24 hours per day, 365 days in the year, that is something I fully agree with.
But otherwise it is only double facing: Doing something only one hour in a year does not save anything, so such "Earth hour" could not be anything else than a propaganda....

Earth Hour is from the hippies/greenies, and is for themself, not for everyone, because this is bull.
