Well seeing as how mercs are being banned left and right, I wonder are they gonna ban the UHP merc lamps used in projectors and TVs? And then we get stuck with a HPS retrofit UHP lamp!

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech? LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).
LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

I meant if they ban the normal MVs lamps and not the UHPs. We MIGHT see UHPs in streetlights someday in the future, who knows.

I was thinking about that! What if they put the UHP arctube in a standard ED or BT outer and made to be used in cobraheads with a suitable ballast. Then the UHP arctubes can be made more cost effective without sacrificing quality and mercs can make a comeback in a new format!

The reason? I would imagine the excessive cost for one of these (although that would be lower without its optical assembly) and the short lamp life would make them cost-prohibitive. I don't think any municipality would go for a type of lamp that lasted less than 10,000 hrs, and even that's pushing it. My local utility uses standby HPS lamps exclusively to get 40,000+hr lamp life.

The future of street lighting is Induction, not nasty HPS lights or cr@ppy LED lights! Preheat CFL's should make a comeback!

Yeah, my older brother has one. He used to have a DLP TV but it kicked the bucket. The warrant covered it so he got a new one. Bad news is that they even wanted the lamp.

Another day and another dollar at work!
|
DLP is by far the best picture television out there, And mitsubishi is the only one to make it right, They use a 6 color light engine and my tv produces color like no other flat panel or DLP set I ever seen, Alot of other people agree with me, Samsung is the only ones using LED and they are rated for 30k. I have heard of failures of the LED and they are not user replacable, Mitsubishi had no interest in LED instead they made a jump towards Lasers now on the Laservue DLP sets which use a red blue and green laser, "Old 3 color light engine as used with everyother tv ever made". I will stick with my UHD lamps with a 6 color segment wheel cause look at it this way, As long and you keep your internals of your DLP set dust free like blowing the insides out every 6 months and changing the lamp once it becomes dim your tv will never degrade! It will always looks like the day you got it once the lamp is changed out! With that said these tv's could last 30 years if you take care of them! And Trust me watch a mitsubishi 2006 onward models in full 1080i 1080p and you will be blown away by the brightness and color. I have a 57" but I am getting a 73" this year and I also picked up a 50" samsung for $100 cause the guy thought it was shot, He even got a brand new lamp for it, The problem was a bad safety switch for the lamp door so I bypassed it and it turned right on! Even the old lamp he took out which was included was still good!
