When i went to ACE in Hotzot Hamifratz Center and Home Center in the bay of Haifa, i have discovered a very annoying phenomenon in these type of shops in Israel: All of the PL wall mounted reading fixtures, that were in these stores in the past, were disappeared and were replaced by E27 fixtures with energy saving CFLs (ELs).
I want to say you clearly: It seems that the thing of the CFLs that is in the first preference, is their low price. The energy saving is in the second preference (Thats why CFLs are less efficient than PLs with magnetic ballasts) and their lifespan is in the third preference (Not surprising why many well branded incandescents and halogens, outlast many modern CFLs).
So i have no option, but to find a PL wall mounted fixture in a wholesale shop.

A point to think :

SL existed since the early 80s and there were few SL's around in Israel (i have seen few black-base in use, and you can see a lot of NOS newer ones in Ben Hur's website installed in the fixtures on display), but rare

Orion adapter existed at least since the early 90s, costed around 80NIS (lamp included), succeeded a bit better than the SLs but not much

Osram 3U CFLs (original high quality) existed since mid 90s, costed around 80-100 NIS, succeeded about same as the Orion

Cheap CFLs appeared around 2004, and suddenly everyone has CFLs



The customer does not think forward. If a SL costs 80 NIS and incandescent cost 2 NIS (+ 500NIS in electricity over the life of 10 incandescents), he'll pay 2NIS and not think any further

The reselling companies know this, so they give the customer what most of the customers want : something that is cheap NOW, and by doing so, they kill the really good products, this does not stop at PL fixtures

What you can do is either :

Look for PL fixture in industrial / commercial supplies

Look in second hand sites Yad2 and Agora (they had some 2x9W fixtures last time i checked)

Buy a cheap meltlight and one of the Eltam PL kits (ballast with attached PL socket) to convert it

Ash: To convert incandescent fixture to PL, by using a ballast with lampholder for PL lamps, i should have an electrician expertise.
I don't know, how to install ballasts and fixtures. I know only to replace lamps.
