The Tractor Supply here had a whole bunch of lamps out. What did they do? Just replaced the failed lamps. That means that the rest, Sylvanias, are ALL close to EOL. It would be funny if these all went EOL at the same time
WAL MART : some months ago they relamped EVERYthing and went from Phillips to GE. I was in the beverage section and they had relamped those. GEEEEE no GE.....SPX50 !!!!
I want some, can't get any. The best I can do is the GE T8 Sunshine. What IS that? SP50 or SPX50. And the ones that went in WalMart were NOT ECO bulbs.

The walmart in my area changed out everything from Cool White to Daylight a couple a years ago, huge improvement if you ask me, and it was neat to see all the lamps working for once. That didn't last long though, now there's as meany dead ones as before the relamp...I never see anyone changing them...what gives? They also changed all the reach-in coolers/freezers to LEDs as well.

Medved: The wattage of the 5ft T8s is 58W not 56W Peach Lover: Are you refering to changing the freezers lighting from fluorescent to LED? This is good. Fluorescents have very short life in the cold temperatures in the freezers and also are dimmer there. With LEDs: The colder temperature that the LEDs operating, the longer life they will last and the brigher light they will produce.

A lot of stores here over the last five, six years or so have changed out their 400w MH highbays to either T8 or T5 fluorescent highbay fixtures.

Medved: The wattage of the 5ft T8s is 58W not 56W
You are right, I'm mixed up by the one of the Osram fixture (I have in my kitchen as a work light) nominal wattage label. It uses HF gear, so for equivalent lumen output operate at lower then lamp "sticker" wattage, so it's power input is only 56W...

Operating a 58W T8 fluorescent lamp on electronic ballast should results in a lower wattage than 56W. A T8 of 30W have 24W in electronic ballast.

Around my area the same relamping/refitting has been in progress. There are almost no slimline or 8-foot HO left, they have been changed to F32T8, most are 5000K as they are done by the same electrician without consideration for the application. Sometimes this colour is OK, other times it is not. I have noticed that 400 W MH is being replaced with some variants of T5 fittings. One store in particular has relamped to T5, and the new fittings give a lot of glare, very unpleasant in a grocery store. The power company is offering cash incentives to convert. As for roadway, the Department of Highways owned and operated HPS and LPS fittings have been almost all changed to LED. Most work properly for now, but I have noticed some that have blinking LEDs in the fitting (they blink at about 1Hz, similar to flashing lights on some electronic equipment). One 180W SOX near my home was struck by a car (very lightly, no damage to the standard) and came crashing to the ground. That was about a year ago. Two months later, it was replaced with a 250 W HPS. That functionned perfectly until last spring, when the service truck went by and changed it to LED. I wonder what happened to the almost new HPS... On the other hand, the power company recently replaced the photocell on this old MV light and relamped it at the same time !

The 56W include ballast losses...

@dor123: Sorry I should have been more clear; they changed all the lighting throughout the store from Cool White to Daylight, every single 4 foot T8 got relamped. At the same time they changed all the HO tubes in the coolers to LED. It was part of a huge revamp walmart was going through a couple of years ago. But yes I agree the LEDs are way better suited for the cool environment then fluorescent lamps are.
