Interesting red enhanced CFL from Sylvania « on: May 06, 2011, 06:54:40 PM » Author: Luminaire
This isn't like Reveal. The CRI is still 82.
There are 14 color chips in color rendition test, but only the first eight are used to derive the "CRI value".  The 9th color is strong red, which many fluorescent lamps are deficient in.

The Sylvania Living Space claims to have enhanced deep red rendition...

Try searching using Google shopping.  Search "Sylvania living spaces", shopping, and check "in stock nearby".  On my end it says they're available at Kmart.

There is a Kmart in Greenwood, SC  25 miles from me.

I will try there. I am getting ready to call Sylvania.

I wish they would try this on some linear fluorescents......

No luck at one of Lowe's. They had Sylvania microtwister CFL, but not the Living Spaces.  I'll have to check out Kmart as suggested by Google shopping search.

The Kmart in Greenwood, SC does have them. I got the 23 watt (equivalent to 100 watts) and it fits in the lamp better than the Reveal 75 equivalent. I am going to place one of each in a dual lamp desk fixture.

Found them at Kmart. For $16 for 2, what a disappointment. They boldly state on the package normal CFL is "uninvited in living spaces and belong in the basement, garage, etc".

I couldn't tell any difference, either looking at it, or how it renders red objects.

I have a desk lamp that has 2 sockets, sideways. I'll take the top off and put in one of these and a Reveal and see what I can see.

I tried these about three years ago when they first came out and I was terribly disappointed.  I could not tell any difference from a standard CFL.

The Reveal CFLs are still, by far, the best choice in CFLs for incandescent retrofits.  I am still struck by how incandescent the light appears -- even in lamps that have been burning uninterrupted for about two years.  I leave my living room lamp on all the time with a 15w Reveal CFL.

It confounds me that GE has not really pushed the Reveal CFL in ads since I think it is far superior to other CFLs and is likely to convince CFL haters to make the switch.

... and the linear Reveals are NOT the same as the CFLs.  They use some awful combination of pink phosphors that makes any room look like a whorehouse or a meat case at the grocery store.  Terrible.

Reveal T8 is CRI 60. T12 is 69. Strange huh?

LOL! And the CR is only 60 and the life on the 40 watters is not as good as other GE bulbs.  I sorta like the pinkishness in my desk lamp though.  I'd rather have F15T8N in it however.....   ;D
