I read the news this morning! Your neighboring state South Carolina is also considering allowing incandescents to be made there, and get this there is already a factory there. Located in Mullins, SC, the manufacturer is known as American Light Bulb Mfg, they make 20000 hour bulbs. Formerly known as Marvel Lamp Co.

Awesome! I am only about 35 minutes from South Carolina. I drive to SC to buy fireworks before my Independence day and New Year's parties. If Georgia does not pass this, hopefully SC will. SC has a new Governor with gonads too, and she is a SHE! LOL

The link didn't work. Still, it is interesting. I thought that the EISA 2007 prohibited states from overruling the incandescent ban.
Also, I believe the American Light Bulb company moved to Illinois some years ago. I don't believe there are any operations left in SC. They are now known as Aero-Tech Lighting. I've bought a number of their lamps in the past. However, they are meant to be such long-life lamps that they are severely underdriven. The light output is horrible compared to the electricity they use. I love that they are true inside frost, USA-made, and available in a wide range of sizes. However, I've decided I'm not buying any more since they are so dim.

Here is a link to the South Carolina proposal. Not sure how it is going in Georgia. I am near South Carolina, so I can pick up some "illegal" incandescents when I go to pick up some "illegal" fireworks! LOL http://www2.wjbf.com/news/2011/mar/01/bill-tries-avoid-federal-incandescent-light-bulb-p-ar-1524270/

Aero-Tech Light Bulb Co is based in Illinois, but the factory is still in Mullins, SC. American Light Bulb Mfg is sorta a division of Aero-Tech. Aero-Tech used to contract with Marvel to make their bulbs but SLI Lighting took over Marvel and eventually closed the Mullins plant. Aero-Tech didn't want to buy 20000 hour bulbs from China so they started American Light Bulb Mfg to reopen the Mullins plant. I saw a video of their bulbs being made at the Mullins place. Very cool!
At my moms house there are two Aero-Tech 60w inside frost bulbs in the downstairs bathroom they keep going!

Awesome bit of history there Silverliner! Always glad when a company does NOT want to buy products from China and instead reopen a closed plant in USA! Now the damned government is trying to ruin it! ![Huh? ???](/Smileys/default/huh.gif)

With these moves it is becoming more and more visible, what is in reality behind these "energy efficiency": Once the prices of incandescent rise, their ban start to be taken back...

Btw, in Israel, the incandescent ban wasn't started yet. It will start in 2012, when all types of incandescent lamps over 100W will be banned first.

Does anyone know if this legislation or the Better Use of Light Bulbs act will affect fluorescent and mercury lamps as well? The fluoro ban is the result of DoE rulemaking, not legislation, so I didn't know if this pending legislation could "cancel" the pending fluoro bans as well as the incandescent bans.

Dave, a while back when I was placing a phone order at American Light Bulb, the operator (has always been charming ladies) told me about a video segment that was being done on the plant and would be broadcast on TLC or something like that. I never could find the video/program. Is that the same thing you were talking about? I think they were doing a show on American factories that are still in use. Thanks.

Alex, yes that is a video that was done in 2009 and broadcast on the TV show Factory Made. They still broadcast reruns of that factory, I suggest you check out the Factory Made website and find when the next one is scheduled. It says "lightbulbs". In the meanwhile, Aero-Tech and American Light Bulb are thrilled about the pending SC ban repeal. Check out this news article with pics of the factory: http://www.newstimes.com/news/article/SC-lawmakers-take-a-dim-view-of-new-light-bulbs-1311502.phpHowever I think they might be wrong about being the only independent manufacturer, they didn't mention Trojan Inc unless something recently happened, but I found nothing on the net about anything happening and their website looks like they are still around. Aero-Tech Light Bulb Co is based in Illinois, but the factory is still in Mullins, SC. American Light Bulb Mfg is sorta a division of Aero-Tech. Like I said before, if I need any incandescents, hopefully this will pass and i can pick some up when I pick up fireworks that are supposed to be for sale and use only in South Carolina. Funny thing is, the fireworks stands are set up right at the Georgia and North Carolina state lines. All the license tags in the parking lot are from Georgia in the one just over the line on I-85 in SC. I can see the signs saying "Fireworks and full power incandescent light bulbs...Buy one, get one free!"
