Yes, the second flow chart of yours happens too often. I think that asking questions to people with excellent knowledge about lighting is fine, but when people who don't actually know the answer to the question put down their thought as what is correct just annoys me. This happend recently on a thread that I believe we both commented on @Alex...

Also, there are certain newer members who just flood the gallery with crap quality pictures of the same sort of lantern, in the same sort of installation over and over again. Making the actually good, and interesting photos harder to find, and much easier to skim past and miss.

@Alex - Well written and agreed 100%...
Thanks for the replies...unfortunately, I find this forum completely dull compared to what it once was. This place was active, fun and entertaining...I could spend an hour plus daily...not anymore. There's to much self-serving, irrelevant, redundant posts on here from members who want to keep plugging there favorite "stuff" and who want be noticed, thinking that this is social media of some sort...it's not.
After a significant break-up and some LG members leaving, another lighting site was created, but that one has little to zero activity too. Honestly, there's no where to go to really discuss non-LED lighting anymore...I guess it's time for me to be turned out to the HID pasture.

There’s nothing wrong with people posting their favorite things being plugged in and being showed off. That’s what this site is all about.

We really don’t want you to go. It’s only a matter of time before this site becomes popular again and you’ll regret it.

@Milwaukeeman2003 - I'm using "plugging" in a mass media sense...as in always promoting ones special interests that are not directly related to lighting, and somehow mixing it in with a post about lighting. There are several here, but one has become an expert at it.
Yes, this site may become active again, but it most likely will be for LED, which as a Gen X'r is rather dull and boring tech.

I'll be honest, I can understand where you're coming from as well. It seems in most of the more recent posts, nothing really stands out to me that much. There are some posts of interest but not too many.

I suppose posts like the TV show screen captures and the pictures of devices that are lights but happen to light up would be better served in the "Off Topic" album. Not really interested in that stuff but I suppose some people on here are.

There are some other lighting sites, but they seem to suffer from a general lack of activity. There was also GOL but I think that site might have gone down for the last time as the last time it was online was early December 2024. Unfortunately GOL used to be active but the unreliability of the site seems to have finally killed it off.

I understand as well, but trust me, LED will only become “popular” on here when it becomes rare. Which won’t happen for a LONG time! Sure some LEDs are cool now, but generally, they are older LEDs that are becoming rare now.

Do you really want me to post TV show screen capture posted in the "Off Topic" category??  It would be useful for one longing for its nostalgia of these old bulbs/fixtures from its heyday.

I was hoping someone would pass the torch to someone else to host and maintain GOL site :-\

If anyone doesn’t like my content or posts, I’ll be happy to see myself out. I suspect that a lot of people don’t find my content engaging, but I’m not sure if anyone finds it annoying or not. If I’m not welcome here, I can leave if that fixes the problem. I didn’t know I was causing people to want to leave. 🫤

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

@Cole D. Please stay! I enjoy all of your posts and uploads. I find it especially interesting seeing your posts asking about things near people. For example, your post asking which supermarkets are in your area, of whether there are any drive in thesters near people. I find those super interesting because I can compare things around the world and things near me, and see all of the differences or similarities to life here and life around the world.

He’s right, and like the others said, this site has lost more than enough members. We even lost one of our administrators, Ria. Don’t make this site suffer more. Plus, you’re a great friend who can relate to me.

Re to BT25, give yourself a break and when you are ready.  We will always be here :)

 I was under the impression that things like that are supposed to be in "Off Topic" anyways . @Patrick ? Correct me if I'm wrong .

 @Cole D. : I also sent you a PM .

 This has been said here a TON of times in the past but we don't need 10 zillion photos of the exact same style of streetlight of which there's still zillions of remaining ! Around me , there's still TONS of HPS cobras . The only ones I've posted are the ones that are truly unique in one way or another . I get that there's those who want to document evereyone for posterity before they all eventually dissappear but unless they're actually something highly important , they don't really need to all be here on LG . What irratates me is seeing a photo I uploaded get almost 0 views/comments while what I see as a totally crap photo gets TONS AND TONS of them .

 Devil's Advocate :  As for LED becoming popular here,  I think it'll be just like every other past lightsource fight here on LG. In the past , how many fights/disagreements were there over HPS/MH  ruining streetlighting by steamrolling over incandescent and MV ??  Do I like LED ? NO ! Do I USE LED ? YES ! But only where I feel it nessecary . I will continue to use HID , primarily MV until I am forced not to  :police: or DEAD !  :DeAtH:

Exactly @wide-lite 1000! Theres a certain member that me and @BT25 have been discussing who just floods the gallery with HUNDREDS of crap quality pictures of about 5 models of streetlight! All of that meaning that actually good pictures, like yours @wide-lite 1000 just get lost, and get few views.

 Within less than a 5 mile circle of my house there's over 100 GE M250R2's , I've photographed NONE of them as there's absolutely NOTHING special about them . All are same ole ,same ole 100w-250w HPS .

@wide-lite 1000 - At least you still have HID...where I'm at it's all LED and it's been that way since 2015. The only good news is that all of the high CCT, low CRI luminaires are failing and/or going to fail meaning they will be replaced with 3000K/80% CRI luminaires.
