I don’t think you should, I definitely appreciate your posts here, even though sometimes I don’t respond to everything.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

No don't go.
Just take a break, stay completely away from the site for atleast a couple weeks.
That really helps if you're feeling down about it or getting burned out on things.

No, please don't go. You're one of, if not my only source of information about locations of old street lights in my area as well as telling me about the street lights of the past. There have been several times when I wonder about past installations and you come along to tell me.

Your posts are amazing just like everyone else and hold valuable info - please come back, we rly enjoyed them

I must say I've not been frequent like I used to be but now I am trying to make an effort to contribute, though the max limit at 10 is creating a huge backlog for me

Anyhow I hope all is well

feel free to ask questions

Re: Thinking about dumping LG for good... « Reply #14 on: April 07, 2025, 01:56:51 AM » Author: Alex
To be honest, i can very well understand you.
I thought that after the libaration this site could turn to the positive again, however in the last 6 month the quality of information nosedived. It has become very apparant to me that now also here plain facts don't matter, and no effort or thought what so ever is taken when something is posted. In the past time i just to often thought when i read something here: "Wow, that is something really dumb to write..." When i took the time to read thru the forum I could not get the thought out of my head that some people just don't care and want to make a point.

What also come to note to me recently is that people start to lay out the most absurd thoughts without doing any research on their own, flooding this site with sheer endless verbal pollution... Then when challenged it is ether ignored or not believed, however the challenged is not willing or capable of defending his position.

I understand that public education made a nosedive in the last two decades, however I think it is not too much to ask to bring a secondary eductions degree to the table with a basic understanding of natural phenomina and physics. To be honest already that is reason enough to rigorously implement the age limit on this site.

It has become apparent that the appart flowchart for problem solution does not take palce anymore. Generally it used to be:

Problem/Question-->thinking about it -->Researching--> getting possible solution-->Researching--> finding additional problems--> asking other people for help:
1) possible solution does not work, restart
2) possible solution works or needs adaptations.

However no it seems to be

Problem/question--> thought--> spill it out to everyone --> let other people research it for myself --> other people (often also more senior) propose an answer --> answer is not what i wanted to hear --> >I still stick with the thought

With now effort what so ever taken in the start, there is no reason to put effort in the replies.

On the bright side however, I see that also members seem to be able to correctly formulate questions and then engage in open minded discussion about that topic.

Regarding the pictures on this site, honestly most don't interest me. And I am not willing currently to upload my own, as i generally try to write something meaningful about the lamp. When I then get comments, which sole content is that the authors of the comments are incapable of reading a sentence composed of more then three words, not even thinking about the entire description of the lamp. Other of these comments then state randome much ar less correct sattemens as "facts" that in best case only tangentially touch the subject discussed.  I just don't see any value in that. There are other lamp forums were I have a 95% comment rate on my pictures and 85-90% are meaningful. These quotas are just unheard of here.

Regarding comments, I only rarely comment nowadays. First thing I already mentioned I don't find it interesting. If i find a lamp interesting I may do my research about it for myself, however thats generally only about aspects of these lamps. If the author does not have well formulated questions about the lamp i generally wont comment. Comments like "Very nice lamp" are in most cases just a waste of server storage in my opinion. It sadly has come on the point that I only write something when the verbal littering has become unbearable...

The only reason i'm still here is that there are mmebers who are senior in knowledge to me who seem to have way more patience and make interesting contribution to discussion, which sadly are not understand or apprechiated by the authors however are by myself, so much that it still motivate me to look here from time to time and endure the otherwise informational vast empty space...
