What is SRS Fluorescent Ballasting? « on: April 03, 2025, 11:36:44 AM » Author: Multisubject
I have seen many posts talking about SRS ballasting, but nobody is explaining what it actually is. I have two competing ideas in my head for what it could be:
  • The same as normal preheat but with an inductor and capacitor in series as the ballast instead of just an inductor as the ballast.
  • The same as normal preheat but an inductor and capacitor in series placed where the starter would be.
Which one of these (if any) is correct?

Just to be clear: SRS stands for Semi-Resonant-Start right?

Are there multiple kinds of SRS ballasting?

Thanks!

@James, @LightBulbFun: can you explain? I doubt if the information at the article "Fluorescent lamp" in Wikipedia is correct, but I suspecting @Medved don't know right about SRS ballasts.

I was going to link the exact same document as LBF!

The only other info on SRS circuits that I have uploaded to my site can be found on p29 of the British Lighting Council’s 1967 fluorescent manual, see http://www.lamptech.co.uk/Documents/Books/Book%20-%20Electric%20Lamps%20Part%20B%20Fluorescent%20-%20BLC%20-%201967%20UK.pdf
