Street lights mounted above water? « on: February 16, 2025, 07:03:41 AM » Author: LightsoftheWest
Have any of you seen any street lights that have been installed above a body of water? I can think of a few. I once saw an OV-15 mounted to the side of a boat dock where it pointed towards the lake and not the dock. I've also seen an abandoned NEMA head on an old pole that was in a bog. If anyone wants the Street View links to either, just ask, and I'll gladly post them.

Filament LEDs. Both a blessing and a curse.

Would be cool to see. I don't live near any major body of water, except for maybe the Atlantic Ocean, so I don't see many docks around me.  :mrg:

I know I’ve seen a few boat docks around here with NEMA heads on them but I don’t remember if any were directly over the water. There is also a bridge I remember seeing somewhere that had GE 201SA NEMA
heads that were over the water though.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

NEMA Head

OV-15

Since 2016, the dock has floated a considerable distance away from the edge of the lake and detached completely from the boardwalk.

There's a ferry dock here that has some (abandoned) LPS fixtures that might be installed over water.

Anyone notice the teardrop and vintage arm to the right of the NEMA?? Beautiful.

I just remembered one, I’m not sure what it was but unfortunately it’s not there any longer.

Looks like a GE M-250R.

I've always wondered how lights were installed above water. It definitely wouldn't be easy to do so.

I just noticed when I posted the link. The dumb thing is that I've been passing by there for the past 15 years and never noticed it until I went to post that link. :slap:

Here are street lights installed on the watergates/ ship locks on the river Rhine. Most of them were use to lit by SOX street lights with fixtures such as Alumag Belmag CORA 3 with 2x90W. Now most are replaced by HPS and LED.
