Amp Number for Full Power 2 lamp HPF Trigger Start Ballast « on: February 11, 2025, 07:43:25 AM » Author: suzukir122
What is the amp number for a 2 lamp HPF Trigger Start magnetic ballast that is completely full power? I don't know the number but I've always
assumed it was 0.47amps.

You forgot to mention tube power.

roughly, Amp = 2 * tube_power / (power_factor * efficiency * line_voltage)

where PF is about 0.7-0.9 and efficiency is about 0.8-0.9

@RRK,   :slap: :wndr:... this is true. I forgot about that... the tubes will be F20T12.

So the current calculated @ PF 0.8 and efficiency of 0.85 is 0.49A, not too far from your value of 0.47A

@RRK, this is good to know. I found a fixture with a HPF Trigger Start 2 lamp ballast that is 0.47amps. I will very likely buy that fixture within the
next month or two. If there are 0.49amp ballasts out there, I'll replace that ballast with the 0.49amp version.

Note that 0.49A is an approximate value calculated out of energy conservation law. As you don't know for sure the exact values for PF and efficiency, and only can guess them approximately, this 0.49A current is only a guess too, and in practice is about the same as 0.47A you quoted.
