ITT Series 13, 23-000 Differences « on: January 25, 2025, 03:35:20 AM » Author: Econolite03
I’m doing some studying on ITT era American Electric small-sized cobras, and have seen a designation I don’t really understand. I’m sure many of you know the Series 13, but I’ve seen a similar looking counterpart, called the 23-000 (not to confuse it with the 1960s 13-000). I may have seen another destination but that’s what I remember. It essentially looks the same as the Series 13, but seems to have predated 1980. Was this just a shortgap between the 13-000 and the Series 13 or something else?

This isn't exactly helpful, here is a 1972 itt catalog of the 223.

@Baked bagel 11: The 223 was the other designation I forget, so your link was helpful. Just like the 23-000, I can’t really tell the difference between the 223 from the common Series 13.

The Series 13 is the successor of the 23-000. It came out in the late 1970s. It lacks the vents on the top that the Series 23-000 has. The 23-000, if I'm not mistaken, dates back to the late '60s.

The Series 223 was just a different version of the Series 23-000. The 223 has levelling bolts on the top; the 23-000 does not.

@LightsoftheWest: Thanks, makes sense. If my theory is correct, the evolution goes:

15-000 -> 25-000 -> Series 25 -> Series 125
13-000 -> 23-000 -> Series 13 -> Series 113 -> Series 115

-223 was a variant of the 23-000, with external leveling bolts.
-Later models went one numeral up if they lacked a PC receptacle.
(This does not include PowerPad versions.)

Yep, that sounds pretty much like it.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the Series 223 was popular as an export model for Europe due to its external levelling bolts. Italy seems to have quite a few of them from what I could tell.
