Filament LEDs. Both a blessing and a curse.

Reasons for my Departure... « on: January 04, 2025, 01:18:39 AM » Author: Maxim
Hi all,

Just wanted to clarify why I took a hiatus from this site; I've been quite busy with schoolwork (4 AP classes + 2 Honors) topped off with SAT prep, varsity swimming, and piano. I'm in 11th grade at this point, which, to those of you outside of NA, is the important year of your school career.

I'll still be around, I'm just quite busy with schoolwork and SAT prep, which pushes my lighting hobby into last place in terms of priority.

I took a hiatus from L-G starting last June as I had a bit of a "dopamine dependency" on both lighting in general and this site. I'd check it nonstop to the point where I started to lose self control and wound up spending valuable time mindlessly browsing the forums for new posts. In addition, my collection expanded past feasible limits, which led to a stern conversation between me and my parents, as well as an overall slowdown in collecting and bargain hunting at my local ReStore. Since the summer, I've only visited my local ReStore once. There were some cool things there, but I only walked out with a NOS Philips fluorescent tube (F40 from Salina, KS, made in 1992), an incandescent or two, a metal halide, and a bi-pin "puck-style" CFL.

Of course, I still pay attention to lights everywhere I go. I just don't have those insane "dopamine urges" to go and buy more clutter to "fill the void".

Though I do plan to hop on here every couple of weeks / on the weekends and chat about lights. :)

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.  :eoled:

I probably need to start to do that too, happens too much that I'm just looking at the gallery at times that I really shouldn't, I stopped at school and my grades shot up. I should certainly stop collecting these big and expensive fixtures too. I feel like when you're at the point that you are just jamming things into places which they don't fit, that's the time to press pause and just check that your in control.
