Not too sure why I'm a sad about this, Leotek has a new website which features the complete leotek line up including some models aimed at Central America and Taiwan. The ecobra is the only light which I can't find on it. They also have newer pictures of the greencobra series.

Makes sense, they had a terrible rep probably thanks to the Detroit’s publicly expressed bad experience with them. I haven’t seen any large scale installations of them since 2015 or so. I guess they decided not to improve it and instead decided to discontinue it.

Many places that installed them are using GreenCobras now. The only place I’ve seen new ones is CalTrans with the new occasional spot replacement here and there.

I've only seen it with the EC4 and EC7, and the ones I've seen only started going blue/purple this year. They are 7-9 years old now.

As lights the older ones were certainly pieces of crap, they look nice though and I think they may have fixed the diode issues too on newer ones.

Only time will tell with the newer ones. So far with the newer ones (post 2020 ish), I've seen two last about year before one went dim and the other went out completely. The rest are still fine but most of them I've seen were installed within the past one to two years.

Filament LEDs. Both a blessing and a curse.

Actually, for us around here, the E-COBRA was the first LED luminaire ever to be used en masse.

A neighboring township has all 3 size variants (in 3000 and 4000K) and I've only seen two failures after four years of service. Both are the medium-sized variant.

The first one installed in my township (2015, we were driving home one night and saw the bucket truck) still works with zero problems.

I would have to agree. They were horrid. I did really like their design, though.

I have never seen one at night in person (there are to the best of my knowledge none over here). I do like how the ec1, 2, 3 and 4 look, anything above that belongs where no one can see it though.

They're decent at first, good light quality (color), not bad of glare, but as they age, the optics degrade really fast, and the light becomes really dim and yellow looking. Whatever drivers they used in the older ones were actually pretty decent. I've seen quite a few go out and get replaced, but a lot of them are still going after 7-10 years.

Hmm if that's the case it makes sense then. I've never seen one flash except for only one recently last year (very dimly, fortunately). Just like a Cree LEDway I know of.

Philips / Advance makes some of the best LED drivers that I've seen so far... Most luminaires that are "ballasted" by them tend to just go out if there's a fault somewhere in the system rather than turn into a disco as some drivers do...

On the subject of LED driver failures, boy was there a COB failure this evening! I was driving down my township's "maintenance" road (police, fire, EMS, maintenance, and the courthouse are all located here) and one of the decorative post-tops was going out in a mad flash frenzy.  :eoled: :eoled: :eoled: :eoled:
