Hey guys, I was wondering about your personal experiences with shipping and receiving streetlights. I was wondering how well you would expect a M250r2 with an acrylic bowl, a M250r2 with a glass bowl, A MSCL (FCO M400) and an AEL 115 FCO to survive shipping to Australia (in the original box)?
Any answers are appriciated.

That totally depends on the sender and how well they pack them.

They are all in their original box, likely no extra packaging.

In theory items sent through the postal service or the couriers should be packaged to survive a 3-4ft drop. However the last time I bought a streetlight, a M-250R2 FCO, it was shipped to me using the original factory box and packaging and it arrived unscathed so it also depends on how it was handled during shipping.

Now shipping from the US to Canada is a lot shorter than shipping from the US to Australia and the longer the trip, the more handling a package gets which translates into the more risk of damage.

I'd be more concerned with the medium sizes cobraheads, especially ones with a glass refractor but all of my larger cobraheads were bought locally and didn't go though shipping. Ideally you'd probably send something like that in two packages. The luminaire body in one and the glass in a separate package or at least package the items in such a away that reduces the risk of the luminaire moving around and smashing the glass.

I once sent a Philips Goldeye (18W SOX bulkhead) internationally and I used one box but separated the fixture base, lens, and lamp well enough that it survived the trip.

@Baked bagel 11 - The only one I got from eBay was a 115. Brand new, came with instructions but no box. It was wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap and I think some wrapping paper in a box slightly bigger than it. Made it just fine.

Just curious, what MSCL or M-250R2 FCO will you probably get?

 I would recomend to over box your street light  by placing the whole orginal street light into another box lined with crumpled paper for extra protection.   ive have seen a glass refractor from
 A scrap yard took a 1 meter fall to concrete slab from a bob cat skid loader at a scrap yard and rescued it got it for free too.

Francis does have a few 100w M-250R2s with multi-tap CWA ballasts if you consider one of those.

Little update, looks like I'll be getting myself a FCO 200w ITT/Thomas and Betts Model 25 from Francis! I plan to buy it in late December - early January (so pictures will likely be in February).

Nice. Hope it makes it safe and sound. If I recall correctly, most, if not all the FCO 25s have mag-reg ballasts.

All right! Mag regs are my favorite (even though they are 120V).
