After knowing that almost every time I look at light fixtures designed for ceiling fans, I almost always see them being referred to as a “light kit”. Why did electrical manufacturers decide to refer to light fixtures intended for use on ceiling fans as “light kits”?

Reason it refered as light kits  because one is it keep confusion down when shoping for a light on a celing fan  And two is there so many lighting option for a celing fan motor bell housing and some require Assembly to install on the celing  Fan.

Although many fans nowadays come with them, traditionally a ceiling fan was just the fan.  If you wanted a light, you picked out the style light kit you wanted to add to that fan.  Most fans that include light kits also include a light delete kit.
