efficiency of colored lamps « on: September 21, 2010, 10:41:34 AM » Author: Xytrell
I don't often find lumen ratings with colored lamps, so it's difficult to see which is most efficient. Does anyone have some data on how these compare? I know it'll be different for each color, but any insight is appreciated.

For example:
Gel filtered incandescent/halogen
LED
CCFL
CFLs with colored glass
phosphor-generated linear fluorescent
sleeve filtered linear fluorescent
metal halide

For discharge lamps and LEDs, green is the most efficient. Red would be the least efficient, at least in fluorescents. Yellow would be the most efficient for incandescent/halogen due to less light being filtered by the coating.

I guess the color is fixed for the application, so comparing if green is more efficient then red does not make sense.

If i could make order by the technology:
Most efficient
1. MH for other then orange, LPS for orange
2. Fluorescent with single color phosphor
3. CFL with single color phosphor
4. MH with gel filter (wide color selection, fast changing colors)
5. LED - only low lumen packages (expensive), only saturated colors
6. CCFL with single color phosphor - medium/low lumens
7. Fluorescent with colored glass
8. CFL with colored glass (El-Cheapo)
9. Halogens with gel filter
