Do stores use waxing machines? « on: November 10, 2024, 08:25:10 AM » Author: Cole D.
I was wondering how stores with vinyl tiles on floors or other hard floors clean and polish the floors?

I’ve sometimes seen them using dust mop like tools that have a pad on bottom and handle.

Im assuming they have some kind of buffer that they use to vacuum and wax the flooring. The concrete or terrazzo finished floors I guess they don’t have to wax.

You notice sometimes in stores with vinyl floors that they look very shiny and other times more dull with scuff marks from shopping carts. Not sure if they wax every day or not.

Also along shelving, refrigerated cases and checkout lines I see old dirt buildup in a lot of places. I guess from applying the wax against these areas causes buildup there.

If we are talking about real commercial rated VCT floor the waxin shouldn't be needed done that often if it's done properly and if they do basic cleaning for the floor regularly. The amount of traffic, how well basic cleaning is done and age of the floor sets how often waxin is needed.

The large stores have a floor cleaner/buffer machine they drive around that does it. Different pads can be placed on them depending on what type of cleaning/polishing is needed. (and ofcourse cleaning/polishing/waxing agent goes in too).
Some stores also contract out floor maintenance to a cleaning company rather than doing it themselves.

Thanks for the replies. Now I think of it, I do remember seeing such machines in back hall or room of the stores sometimes.

I always enjoy when the floors are shiny, glossy and scuff free! It makes the store look so clean.

It' also worth to note that not all waxes create shiny finish, some places can prefer matte rather than really shiny surface.

True. What bothers my OCD is all the crap that’s probably under the shelving from years of no cleaning, I’ve seen stores moving shelves around and it’s not a pretty sight under there when the shelves are moved.

I wouldn’t even want to know what it looks like under the refrigerated cases. 🤢
