Can someone explain to these people what a cycling HPS lamp is as I don't have an account. https://www.reddit.com/r/ParanormalEncounters/comments/164ngxa/anyone_familiar_with_street_light_interference/

These are the same kind of people that believe that old eol flickering fluorescent lights are caused by ghosts. The best way to respond would be a link to the Wikipedia article about it (Wikipedia -> Sodium vapour lamps -> End of life).

"At end of life, high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps exhibit a phenomenon known as cycling, caused by a loss of sodium in the arc. Sodium is a highly reactive element and is lost in a reaction with the aluminum oxide of the arc tube.
As the lamp heats to this point, the arc fails, and the lamp goes out. Eventually, with the arc extinguished, the lamp cools down again, the gas pressure in the arc tube is reduced, and the ballast can once again cause the arc to strike. The effect of this is that the lamp glows for a while and then goes out, typically starting at a pure or bluish white then moving to a red-orange before going out."   -Wikipedia.

Who's going to tell them that it's not their magic, but just a capacitor who farted all its juice out, ruining the driver of the led?

From my experience, these sorts are not worth arguing with, and definitely not worth my time. They are illogical...you can't fix stupid...especially if its self imposed.  ::)

Isn't this one of those urban legends that's been around for ages? I think I first time came across this on the internet about 20 years ago and even then it cited some older sources.

I wonder how many of these people are around in this day and age of LEDs. But then again, they'll pass a lot with cheapo cob LED lamps that are flashing at end of life and think they have magical powers.
