Anybody really into their music and hi-fi? Be interesting to hear what setups people are running.
Music is a big thing to me and I've amassed quite a collection of cassettes, vinyl, CD's and now digital, with several terabytes worth or lossless and hi-res audio files 😂

I've also spent a number of years getting a setup that I've happy and it's been the same for a number of years now which is a first heh.

My gosh, that is so long time ago My late father was in the Hi-Fi.  We still had the equipment until we sold it when we moved to the new home.  They were from the 1970s and 1980s.

I suppose it'd be a good idea to list my current setup.

I used to have two sound systems, one for multi-channel home cinema / gaming and one for stereo but I've since combined them into one.

The analogue source I use is a Thorens TD160 Mk1 turntable with a custom hardwood plinth, a Pro-Ject S2 Ultra preamp and an Audio-Technica AT-OC9ML/II cartridge.
For digital I use an Oppo UDP205 which apart from being an amazing UHD blu-ray player, is a really good sounding DAC which I stream music to over USB.
The balanced stereo and unbalanced multichannel outputs from the Oppo (and my gaming pc) gets fed into a Parasound Halo P7 multichannel preamplifier.

The front stereo speakers are a pair of PROAC Response D2 speakers which is driven by a Chord SPM1000b power amplifier.
The centre channel is a PROAC Response CC1 speaker driven via a Parasound Zamp V3 power amplifier in bridged mono mode.
The rear stereo speakers are a pair of KEF HTS3001SE speakers driven by another Parasound Zamp v3 power amplifier.
The subwoofer is a Tannoy TS12.

I'm quite happy with the current setup and it sounds amazing both listening to music in stereo and also watching movies and playing games in 5.1.

In my better life I had a pair Cerwin-Vega CLSC-12 speakers driven by Yamaha AX-496 amp for many years. I was mostly satisfied with this setup, amp was very transparent with distortions in low /hundreds of %, and speakers were clean with good deep bass. My only reservation was horn loaded tweeters had a bit narrow sound field vertically, somewhat corrected in later Classic series from Cerwin-Vega. Used multiple signal sources like USB DAC, Pioneer Blu-ray player, Sony DAT deck, but mostly the old white Apple powerbook G3, not useful for anything serious any more, but having a good designed audio circuit. It played a collection of MP3s and internet radio. Mostly favorite sound source of today are my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro headphones, standard 250 Ohm version. These are very comfortable, clean and have a bit raised response at high frequiencies well compensating for somewhat aging ears. That's it.


 

I currently don't have a hi-fi system, but I sure loved it back in the 80's! Nothing like Van Halen or Def Leppard blasting it out!

I think people misunderstand, those all in one stacked monstrosities that people had in the 80's certainly was *not* Hi-Fi 😂

I forgot to list my cans. I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 1990 pro's which I quite enjoy.

Have something I mostly cobbled together out of (cheap at the time) vintage gear, this is more of a bedroom system.

For analogue I use a Technics SL-Q303 Turntable with a Ortofon OM 10 cart for vinyl playback or Pioneer CTF-500 for cassette playback. I've always wanted a SL-1200 series but the SL-Q303 is pretty decent.

For digital I have some old iPods I've loaded some ripped CDs on to. Some still have their original HDDs but I upgraded the storage on one of them to 512GB, that one I load my lossless tracks on to. I was debating getting a modern DAP which will let me play FLAC files directly without either converting to ALAC for my iPods or installing rockbox on them. 

These sources are fed though a Harman/Kardon hk340 receiver and then to some random bookshelf speakers I had. I'm thinking of upgrading the speakers but before I do so I'll need to make more room for speakers. I have a set of Tannoy Eclipse speakers that sound great but don't fit where I have my system.

Headphones are just a pair of cheap Tascam TH-02s.
