Personally, there are lots of fluorescent fixture designs that I personally find aesthetically pleasing to me. In my case, here are the fluorescent fixture designs that I consider to be my favorites:

I really like the older waterproof fixtures made for industrial use, especially with the clear glass tube over the fluorescent tube. I can't find the image for it though...

the ones on older merchant ships they have 2 or 3 glass tubes and a cast end assembly with caps you remove to access the lamp inside F40T12 tubes
we had a similar setup for the PIT at a shop I used to work at
also partial to circline fixtures EX "fancy" ones like the Japanese ones shown above

Probably the drop lens troffer. They have nice even light spread and when mounted in a drop ceiling, give it a bit of character.
My other favorite would probably have to be the plain old single lamp 4 foot striplight. Magnetic or electronic, T12 or T8, it is a simple and flexible way to get a good amount of light for tons of different applications.
