Purple flashes during MV warmup? « on: October 30, 2022, 02:26:40 PM » Author: RCM442
One of my 175 watt lifeguard MV lamps has a bunch of purple flares when it's warming up. Normal?

It should be fine, one of my Norelco DXs did that but works as usual otherwise.

I think the purple flash may be the electrical arc inside the tube. Many of my MV lamps do it just after being turned on but before they turn pink when the mercury begins to vaporise.

Fluro starter pings combined with a 50hz ballast hum and blinking tubes is music to my ears.

The problem is that normally, MV lights using phosphors should start with pink flares instead of purple, which is very magical. Because my Philips and Osram MV lights start with pink flares.

I've been collecting light bulbs since I was 2 years old and I've been collecting them ever since.
