Fixing cloudy glass « on: September 12, 2022, 09:07:11 AM » Author: HIDLad001
I wanted to remove the frosting from my GE A19 CFL, so I used a razor blade to remove it. It worked, but certain parts of the glass were cloudy by the time I was done, I guess the razor blade made it cloudy, but I am not sure. Do any of you know a method to remove the cloudiness and make the glass bulb crystal clear?

Not sure how to fix that, but we had success in using isopropyl alcohol in removing the coating.  :wndr:

I tried using isopropyl alcohol, but it didn't work. I ended up using a razor blade, and now the glass is cloudy.

The cloudiness might be minute scratches then.  :wndr:

Do you think you could fix it with a polish?

Possibly, do an online search for polishing compounds, they might work.

Would WD-40 And high grit sandpaper work? I have seen people using it to remove scratches and clouding from plastic.

Possibly, but just remember that the lamp will become very slippery so keep a good grip on it.

I would probably screw it into a socket that isn't plugged into anything to hold it for me.

We already have WD-40, and high-grit sandpaper is cheap.

Go for it, but get as high a grit count as you can.  :wndr:

Such high-grit sandpaper will have other uses for me besides fixing this light bulb. I might use it to fix a scratched screen on a CRT television, or removing scratches from plastics.
