That's a shame. Toronto had a ton of these...they were still installing them for road projects last year too.

I have a new one, built to more or less Toronto specs with the bare housing and drop lens. It's 200w HPS. I was hesitant to get it but I felt like the 125s was more or less the last stand for HID cobraheads in my area so I figured I'd might as well get it.

Still alive and doing well in Boston.

All lighting except LED rules!

Re: American Electric discontinues the 125 « Reply #18 on: July 07, 2022, 10:14:28 PM » Author: thelightingman
True. But maybe it will just be the fixtures that are banned, who knows? I know fluorescent lamps/fixtures will be banned.
I also think that the ban also applies to the second hand sale, such as eBay, FB Marketplace, etc of banned fixtures/lamps, or something
I sure hope they don't ban second hand sale of them because that means we'll no longer be able to get them at all

I think HPS, MV, and MH rule! :mv: :mvc: :hps: :emh: Ban LED instead! :eoled:

Probably the only sales they'll have are that from lighting enthusiasts

Ohio DOT (ODOT) is still installing 125's as replacement fixtures !! As part of a interchange renewal project nearby , about 8 new HPS 115s were installed . More than 1/2 have already failed and were replaced with 125's .

I promise you that there's absolutely "0" possibility that lighting enthusiasts were the only sales of ANY new streetlight !! If that was the case , they would have been discontinued years ago ! NO product can stay in production when being bought one or two at a time by a handful of people per year !

True, but their 35 years in production will be missed to some collectors and enthusiasts.

Even though the 125 wasn’t my favorite fixture, it’s still sad to hear these have been discontinued. Now I just hope this isn’t the beginning of the end for all their HID fixtures… Hopefully they at least keep the 115 and Series 11 in production for a while longer.
125s were never really used that much around here before major LED conversions started, but I did see one or two around the county I live in.

I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it.
I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.
