F25T12/CW/RS/EW...? (Philips) « on: April 15, 2022, 03:08:54 PM » Author: suzukir122
I probably won't be keeping this thread up, but I was wondering... is this "F25T12" from Philips the energy saver version of the F30T12? (3 footer)
Or is this a full wattage lamp that is shorter than 3 feet? I'm also wondering the same about the GE F25T12/CW/RS/WM/ECO.
Also, wondering if these are Halophosphate.

Yeah, that specific model code should be the energy saving version of F30T12 lamp.

25w T12 lamps can be a bit confusing as there are three different lengths of T12 lamps all with the 25w power rating.

F25T12/CW/RS/EW - There are a 36" long energy saver direct drop in retrofit for F30T12/RS/CW lamps. Basically the F34T12 for 36" lamps

F25T12/CW/33 - These are 33" long and are considered a full power lamp. These were made as the 33" length was the longest length that could reasonably run on using a choke ballast on 120v. They're not that common in newer fluorescent lights and the lamps aren't that easy to find. I believe these are a preheat only lamp as I don't think a trigger start ballast were made for these.

F48"/25W/UTSL - These are 48" long and are basically the old style F40T12/CW lamps with electrodes designed for 12000 hours and for 25w "shoplight" style ballasts that underdrive standard F40s they're were made as a EPACT loophole lamp to allow for a cheap F40T12/CW lamp for use in those lights when the regular F40T12/CW got banned. I believe they will actually run on regular HPF F40T12 ballasts but at a shorter life. I think they weren't made after the newer lamp regulations in the 2010s either. I haven't seen these in a while.

@Joseph_125, yup I'm most familiar with the 48" 25w T12. That is very confusing indeed. I've found Alto's that are 25w on Ebay, packs of them,
and I'm thinking about buying them since they're cool white. Tough call given energy saver T12 Alto history though... since they SUCK.
But I still want them. Then there's the GE ones, which I'm also thinking about buying...
Do you know if the GE and the Philips ones are Halophosphate? Or are they the Triphosphate versions of Cool White? I'm hoping both the Philips and
the GE tubes are Halo. Ecolux GE, by the way!

I have a few 25w 48” lamps, I have seen others that are cooked! :poof:

There is also the 28” and 30” F25T12 lamp, I believe they can also run on the same choke ballast. :)

@Bulbman256, yeah those will also be the style of fluorescent lamps I'll be avoiding. I'm mainly focused on the 36" ones, as part of several F30T12's
I'll be purchasing in pairs, different brands each pair.

Interesting to hear of other length lamps that run off those 25w choke ballasts.

Looking back, I probably should have picked up at least a pack of those 25w 48" lamps. I remember Canadian Tire here used to carry the GE version in packs of two.

BTW, to confuse things even more, there's a 25w 36" T8 lamp too. Those technically require a different ballast than the 25w 36" lamps, although most F32T8 ballasts should also run the,. They might be a good option if you're looking for triphosphor lamps, you can get magnetic ballasts than run F25T8s that'll have that rapid start flicker.

As for the 36" lamps they used to be halophosphor CW but I wonder if they changed to triphoshor CW in more recent years. You could tell by looking at the CRI rating. If the lamp has a CRI in the 60s it's usually a halophosphor. If it's in the 70s or higher it's usually triphosphor.

If you can find them, a F30T12/CG would be pretty neat to figure out how to add to your setup. I have one and they look great.

@Joseph_125, is that F30T12 Cool Green? But yeah, unfortunately I'll be sticking with the cool white halophosphate ones. It's also unfortunate that
the ones I'm seeing that are 25w energy savers, seem to be in large box packs. I'm not looking to get hundreds of 25w T12's. Not now anyways.  :'-)

Yeah cool green. It's a neat colour to use for task lighting although I'm not sure about using it for general lighting either. I have mine in one of those undercabinet light style desk lights.

Yeah seems like Philips still make the Halo Cool White ones... there is a possibility I may go with Warm White Halophosphate instead, since I've
found lots of Warm White Halophosphate lamps online that claim 25 watts and "36.
