https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED089022.pdf  I found this a while ago . It's a LONG read at 70 pages . (the only way I can read it is to enlarge it to 175% !)  It discusses 3 lighting sources (MV , HPS & MH ) in use at the time for highway lighting , the math required for designing a lighting system , maintenance of the system and other factors . It's rather interesting but some sections get REALLY technical !!

It even showed an HM1000

Great find! I've always wondered how luminaire layouts on older roadways and highways were designed. Especially in the "pre personal computer" era which is also the era when MV was still being installed on highways.

I'd imagine now luminaire layouts are designed a lot differently. There's probably software that lets you change parameters and does all the modeling for you.. 

I figured someone would find it interesting ! It's a bounty of streetlighting info . It's just a lot to read and comprehend .
