GE-Savant Bucyrus & Logan closures « on: March 11, 2022, 06:13:22 PM » Author: James
GE-Savant plans to close its final two manufacturing sites in the USA : the Bucyrus Lamp plant and Logan glass plant.  Very sad news, will that be the final end of lamp manufacturing in USA or are there maybe some small independent companies still operating?

Oh no, a sad day indeed  :'(

Are there any manufacturers left in the UK, I wonder..? I seem to recall that you mentioned the factory where they made the LT signal lamps is still operating..?

That's unfortunate. Hopefully they don't close their Hendersonville NC plant.

That's a shame. I was hoping when the Canadian plants closed, they would be able to consolidate operations in the US and prolong their operations a bit longer.

The EYE plant in Mentor, Ohio is still going, so is the Sylvania automotive plant in Hillsboro, NH. Both plants appear to be doing well serving the niche markets that requires the lamps they make. The Interlectric fluorescent plant in Warren, PA might still be operating, under new ownership.

Sure, sales of fluorescent tubes is declining, but there is more going on at Savant. The Nela Park campus is being sold, and both Bucyrus and Logan plants have already been sold. I wonder if Savant ran into financial issues being a small company buying a large lamp business.

That's incredible news Dave, NELA Park has been home to GE Lighting for 109 years, I never thought they would move away from that beautiful campus.  But I can understand the problem, it is maybe something like 20 times larger than what they need since the company shrank so much.

I think there is an encouragement to make products only in China instead of locality in many places in the world.

Sadly you are right, one day I fear that nobody else in the world will make anything any more  :-\

The UK was once known as the workshop of the world, but no more  :sadbulb:

Anyway, enough grumbling, let's just enjoy the lights we have while we can  :hps: :mv: :emh: :mvblb: :bumh: :lps:  :bulbman:

Send them an email, explain who you are and why you want to tour the place. You could fib a little and tell them it's for a school project, or maybe even make it one  :wndr:
