You have to be patient with things like this. People aren't going to keep stuff available indefinitely until you can afford to buy them. I've waited years for rare lamps I have been interested in to show up, and I'm still waiting after 50+ years for one of these. I understand your frustration, really I do, but complaining about it isn't going to help. When the time is right, something will turn up

Sorry , I missed the different latch design. The one I linked is a M-400A2 NOT a M-400A .  Also , Ria's correct. You need to be patient with this stuff . It took me 40 YEARS to finally get a Westy OV-20 Clamshell streetlight .  Some of the greatest finds of mine came when I wasn't even looking . My NOS Westy OV-400 was literally stumbled upon while searching for something TOTALLY UNRELATED !!  :o :poof:  One will show up when you're MEANT to find it .

I know that feeling. I had been trying to get a Sylvania B2222 for about 6 years and all my attempts failed. The waiting does pay off and I happened to find 2 of them in a dumpster. I am still looking for a B2224 but I don't stress too much. I wait patiently until I find one.
Like the others have said, they have been looking for something and it's taken them 40 or even 50 years.

I've been outbid twice on eBay for MAT/V lamps, both times they went for stupid money (in excess of £200) which is out of my range right now. The third one was removed from eBay by the seller as he sold it to someone who visited him to collect another purchase  :curse:

I do not have time for 40 or 50 years to find an M400A because who knows, maybe i committed suicide, or i had a heart attack?

My advice is don't fret so much about the stuff you don't have.  I bet lots of folks here would gladly part with their whole collection for the opportunity to be a teenager again.  Why not focus on smaller, more portable lights?  A cobrahead is big and bulky, and especially when you're young it's tough to predict your future living arrangements.  I held off acquiring any streetlights until I had a place with a garage.  Although I wouldn't have minded having one sooner, it'd have been tough to manage in an apartment and my parents certainly wouldn't have wanted it stashed at their place.

True, but i feel like there won't be anymore NOS M400A street lamps in the future, that is unless someone wants to part it out to someone, then i would gladly take it, even of it where 480 volts

Maybe, maybe not.  Even if not, I'm sure you'll find something you'll enjoy.  Perhaps you'll have the opportunity to fix up an old one instead and have fun restoring it in the process.  Sometime between now and then you might change your mind and have a new favorite model.  Regardless, it's not productive to mope about what you can't change.  Try to focus on what you're able to do now, and think about the cobrahead once you're able to accommodate one.

:-[ I know, but the reason why i am down about this incident was because these where my childhood street lights, i saw them every time i drove past them, Here in St. George, there is an arterial road called bluff street (SR18) and the road was LINED with 1970's/ early 1980's M400A's and this is what started my interest in street lighting. That is until early 2018, when the stretch of road was expanded, those got removed, they where also HPS, in 400 watts too. Now i miss seeing those. Oh, yeah, i started liking street lights in 2017 btw. there was something peaceful about the M400A's i don't know what. I think it was the fact that they where HPS or something.

I don't think I'd want to be a teenager again, not now LED has almost completely taken over. I was privileged to grow up with MV, LPS and discharge lamps in general, something today's youngsters will never see :'(

But yeah, try not to get too upset about what you can't currently have. Something will show up, but it will take time. Yes something could happen, you could get run over and killed tomorrow, but it's not healthy to dwell on the morbid, that way lies depression, and many of us here, including me, will tell you that isn't good   :(

Focus on the good things in life, not the bad

My all time favourite lantern is GECs Z9517, but I’m not even going to bother looking for one, as far as I know, there’s only 2 collectors in the entire UK that have got one! as to how rare they are now, if one ever turns up then that’s a bonus, but I’m happy just to have the memories of them shining their linear sodium lamps all over our town when I was a kid  8)

And memories are something NO-ONE can ever out bid you on!

I had a quick look on ebay and found this.
It has a different refractor though
