LED Replacement for PAR 56 300W incandescent lamp « on: January 26, 2022, 01:58:16 PM » Author: Michael
Hi there,

Is there any suitable LED substitute for PAR56 300W 230V lamps? We have a couple of spot lights which are illuminating some small monuments throughout our city which are still using these short lived PAR 56 bulbs and I like to replace them with equivalent LED types. The PAR bulbs have its place in the top hood of amenity street lights and therefore the space in these hoods is confined. The light colour should be 3000K.

Thanks

Hello Michael,

I had a quick search online. There are some LED PAR56 lamps for 230v operation, however there are non by a manufacturer I know, and so likely of questionable quality. What you find a lots are 12V version for replacing the 12V 300W PAR56 lamp in swimming pools. From those I know, Sylvania used to make some, and there is also wider available , also with the possibility to program colors. Might be useful for architectural lighting. If a fixture conversion to 12V is possible it might be thought of.

Best regards,

Hi Alex

Thank you for the search. The problem for those 12V ones I know is that they are for use under water only. It might be the only solution to take out the old assembly and replace it with a modern small LED projector.

Some of the PAR56 12V types do also work above water.  Sylvania Germany is manufacturing four versions, the RGB, 1000lm cool white, and 2000lm cool white and warm white.  A 3500lm version will be launched shortly.  That latter version runs too hot for use in air, and the 2000lm will suffer reduced life but I estimate should still deliver at least 10khrs to L70F50.  The 1000lm is just fine in air, but rather weak to match the output of 300PAR56 incandescent.

Thank you James. What is the price for one 1000lm lamp? The 2000lm would have really a short life since it is right above a base down burning SON 50W which also generates some heat.

If you check online you can find various sellers, but usually something extortionate like €100-150!  It seems that everything to do with swimming pools is very expensive.  And only recently I threw away dozens of these as we now have to clear out unused parts of the factory 🙈. If I come across more you are welcome to have it, but we developed the 1000lm a long time ago so I am afraid I may only find the higher lumen types.
